Job description
This is a full-time position based in Perth CBD with WFH allowances.
This role is available until January **** with potential extension to June ****.
Salary range of $89,136 - $106,169 depending on experience, plus 13% superannuation.
Generous conditions are applicable in accordance with the UnionsWA Enterprise Agreement ****.
About the role
The Union & Advocacy Specialist strengthens engagement between unions, migrant workers and multicultural communities across Western Australia.
The position organises and supports union engagement, culturally responsive workplace-rights education, research and advocacy.
Working across UnionsWA, unions and external partners, the role identifies emerging workplace issues, strengthens worker participation and contributes to strategic policy and advocacy priorities.
The position also supports initiatives associated with the Workplace Justice Visa and Strengthening Reporting Protections pilots.
Responsibilities of the position
Develop and implement union-engagement, organising, education and advocacy initiatives.
Build strategic relationships with unions, migrant workers, multicultural communities and project partners.
Strengthen union participation and culturally responsive organising among migrant workers.
Deliver workplace-rights education, information sessions and stakeholder-engagement activities.




Provide accurate general information about workplace rights and relevant obligations under the Migration Act.
Support awareness of the Workplace Justice Visa and Strengthening Reporting Protections pilots.
Gather evidence, worker experiences and case studies to identify systemic workplace issues.
Contribute to research, policy submissions, briefings and advocacy strategies.
Present evidence and policy proposals to unions, government and community stakeholders.
Maintain accurate records and contribute to monitoring, reporting and evaluation.
Undertake domestic travel and other duties consistent with the position.
Selection Criteria
Essential:
Demonstrated experience in migration related workers' rights, union organising, research, advocacy or a related field.
Solid research, analytical and evidence-gathering capability.
Highly developed written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement engagement, organising or education strategies.
Strong stakeholder-management and relationship-building skills.
Ability to work effectively with unions, workers, communities and partner organisations.
Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities.
Current Western Australian C Class Driver's Licence.
Demonstrated commitment to unionism, equality, social justice and worker participation.
