Job Title:Credit and Risk Manager (Max-Term Contract - 12 months)

An established consumer lending fintech business is seeking an experienced and commercially minded Credit and Risk Manager to join their team.
In this role, you will be responsible for managing the organisation's credit risk framework, credit operations, and portfolio performance across the lending lifecycle.
This role combines credit strategy, underwriting oversight, portfolio risk management, fraud monitoring, collections performance management, merchant risk oversight, compliance monitoring, and risk governance responsibilities.
You will play a key role in supporting sustainable business growth while ensuring lending decisions remain aligned with responsible lending obligations, regulatory requirements, and the organisation's risk appetite.
This role is ideally suited to an experienced credit risk professional who enjoys combining strategic thinking, data-driven analysis, and hands-on operational leadership within a fast-paced fintech environment.
Key Responsibilities
Credit Strategy & Policy
Maintain and continuously enhance Credit Policy, underwriting standards, and approval authorities
Monitor and recommend changes to credit scorecards, decisioning rules, affordability models, and risk settings
Review and approve policy exceptions within delegated authority
Support the development of new lending products and credit initiatives
Balance portfolio growth objectives with prudent risk management outcomes
Credit Operations & Underwriting
Oversee day-to-day credit assessment activities and underwriting quality
Provide guidance and support to Credit Assessment Officers on complex applications
Conduct quality assurance reviews and identify opportunities for continuous improvement
Monitor application volumes, approval rates, conversion rates, and turnaround times
Ensure lending decisions align with responsible lending obligations, internal policies, and regulatory requirements
Lead and develop the Credit Assessment team,
ensuring high standards of credit quality, productivity, and customer outcomes
Act as an escalation point and approval authority for complex, high-risk, or policy exception lending decisions within delegated limits.
Portfolio Risk Management
Monitor portfolio performance across key risk metrics including approvals, arrears, defaults, losses, recoveries, and portfolio trends
Conduct portfolio analysis to identify emerging risks and opportunities
Develop and maintain portfolio reporting, dashboards, and performance insights
Recommend risk mitigation strategies and portfolio optimisation initiatives
Support forecasting, provisioning, and portfolio performance reviews
Monitor portfolio performance by merchant, channel, customer segment, and product type to identify emerging risks and trends
Fraud, Collections & Hardship
Oversee fraud prevention and detection controls across the lending lifecycle
Monitor fraud trends, suspicious activity, and emerging financial crime risks
Support collections and hardship strategies to improve portfolio performance and customer outcomes
Work closely with Collections and Customer Operations teams to manage arrears and recovery performance
Ensure customer treatment remains fair, compliant, and consistent with regulatory expectations
Support AML/CTF controls and customer due diligence processes across the lending lifecycle
Governance & Stakeholder Management
Prepare regular credit and portfolio risk reporting for management
Support governance forums, audits, compliance reviews, and regulatory requests
Maintain risk registers, action plans, and monitoring activities relevant to the credit function
Support ongoing compliance with NCCP obligations,
ASIC regulatory guidance, Privacy requirements, AML/CTF obligations, and internal policies
Support merchant onboarding, due diligence, periodic reviews, and ongoing monitoring activities
Monitor merchant compliance with policies, responsible lending expectations, and regulatory obligations
Identify and escalation merchant conduct, compliance, fraud, or operational risks
Support the maintenance and continuous improvement of risk and compliance frameworks, policies, and procedures
Work closely with Product, Operations, Sales, and Compliance teams to support business objectives
Contribute to a strong risk and compliance culture across the organisation
About You
7+ years' experience in consumer lending, credit risk, underwriting, or portfolio management
Experience within unsecured consumer lending, retail finance, fintech, or non-bank lending environments
Strong understanding of responsible lending obligations, NCCP requirements, and credit risk management principles
Experience with automated credit decisioning systems, scorecards, and lending platforms
Solid analytical capability with experience interpreting portfolio and customer performance data
Sound understanding of fraud prevention, collections, and hardship management practices
Experience across both credit risk and compliance functions within consumer lending, fintech, or financial services environments
Working knowledge of NCCP, RG209, RG271, AML/CTF, Privacy and consumer lending regulatory requirements
Experience supporting merchant or third-party distribution models highly regarded
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
Relevant degree in Finance, Business, Economics, Mathematics, or a related discipline preferred
