Join City of Melbourne Libraries and help create inclusive, engaging, and vibrant library experiences for our diverse community.
As aPrograms and Collections Librarianat the new Southbank Library, you'll deliver exceptional library and information services while developing and managing adult collections and facilitating innovative adult programs that foster learning, literacy, culture, and community connection.
Working across our dynamic library network, you'll play a key role in supporting readers, promoting collections, developing partnerships, and creating welcoming spaces where everyone feels valued and supported.
A little more about the role
Design, deliver and evaluate engaging adult programs that support educational, cultural and reading interests.
Provide high-quality, socially inclusive customer service, reference and information services to a diverse community.
Manage and promote library collections across both print and digital formats.
Build productive relationships with community organisations and internal stakeholders to enhance library services and community engagement.
Deliver reader development initiatives and support colleagues through collaboration, training and shared expertise.
Assist patrons to access library technologies, online resources and digital services.
Contribute to creating a protected, welcoming and inclusive environment for all community members

About you
You're passionate about libraries, lifelong learning and community engagement.
You enjoy connecting with people from diverse backgrounds and are committed to delivering excellent customer service, collections and Library programming in a welcoming and inclusive environment.
You bring empathy, resilience and a community-focused mindset, with the ability to respond calmly and respectfully in challenging situations.
You are organised, adaptable and thrive in a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same.
What your experience might look like - Key Selection Criteria
Tertiary qualifications in librarianship, community programming or a related discipline, and/or significant relevant experience.
Experience delivering library services, reader development initiatives, community learning programs or adult literacy-related services.
Strong understanding of library collection management principles and contemporary library practices.
Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships with diverse stakeholders and engage positively with the public.
Excellent communication, presentation and customer service skills.
Confidence using digital technologies, online library resources and emerging technologies to support customer needs.
Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities, solve problems and work collaboratively within a team environment.




Experience supporting vulnerable community members and applying a trauma-informed approach is highly regarded.
Eligibility for professional membership with the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) is desirable.
