Job Description
Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospitals Fixed Term (until 30 June ****) Visiting Medical Officer (10 positions zero-hours) Emergency Medicine

The position includes clinical responsibilities across Blacktown and Mount Druitt Emergency Departments.
Successful applicants will provide clinical services within the Emergency Department at Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospitals.
The Emergency Department at Blacktown Hospital offers emergency care for patients of all ages, 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
The main purpose of the Department is the provision of initial assessment, sorting and initiation of management for patients presenting to the Department.
Other departments or the patient's family doctor can provide more appropriate ongoing care.
The Emergency Department is a level 5 department, (with the hospital being a Level 2 trauma unit) providing treatment of major and minor trauma cases and medical emergencies.
It provides a service that ensures the timely, skilled and appropriate management of all patients.
Approximately ****** patients attend the department each year (more than 170 patients per day).
The number of admissions to inpatient beds averages 50 per day.
The Emergency Department also provides a focus for teaching and research into the acute emergency care of patients and the health and wellbeing of the community.
Mount Druitt Emergency Department is classified as level 4 Emergency Department (NSW Health, ****).
Approximately ****** patients attend Mt Druitt ED each year.
As a level 4 ED, Mount Druitt can manage a full range of emergency presentations and can transfer critically ill patients via retrieval services.
To ensure that the department can manage the range presentations staff are specially trained with formal education programs for nursing and medical staff.
Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospitals (BMDH) operate as a single hospital across two campuses.




Clinical services at Mount Druitt campus include a 24-hour emergency service, medical assessment unit, Paediatrics, planned surgery, rehabilitation and palliative care unit.
Ambulatory care services provided on site at Mount Druitt include Aboriginal health, oral health, community dialysis center, and drug health.
Applicants must have Australian Fellowship-Specialist Registration at time of applying
Essential Requirements for Appointment
Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine or equivalent as provided for in the Health Insurance Act ****.
Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency.
Must hold a current NSW Environment Protection Authority license (if applicable)
Sound clinical knowledge in Emergency Medicine demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position, including a keen clinical interest in paediatric and geriatric emergency medicine.

Knowledge of experience in the challenges and complexities of both Blacktown and specifically Mt Druitt campuses.
Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to lead and work within a multidisciplinary team workplace including meeting KPIs and benchmarks whilst maintaining quality care delivery and supervision and teaching of junior staff.
Demonstrated commitment to teaching, training and supervision of all levels of doctors.
Demonstrated knowledge of and interest in Quality Improvement and Research.




Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Health Services Act **** and Public Hospitals (Visiting Medical Officers Sessional Contracts) Determination ****.

Qualifications and credentials required for core scope of practice in the specialty.
Evidence of additional qualifications, skills and-or experience required for specific scope of practice for the specialty.
Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including: proven ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues.
Excellent organisational, supervision and collaboration skills with demonstrated ability to build respectful relationships.
Maintaining and developing knowledge, skills and professional performance to the level required for contemporary practice.
Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and translation of research into practice to improve patient safety and quality.
