Mary's House Services is seeking a Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) Specialist Caseworker to join its casework team.
Reporting to the Refuge and Casework Manager, the role provides specialist support, case management, advocacy, safety planning, counselling, and referrals for women and children affected by domestic and family violence.
The successful candidate will participate in team activities, professional development, and work in accordance with organisational policies, values, Code of Conduct, health and safety requirements, and relevant community sector standards.
Some of the key responsibilities are: Assess clients' support needs, including legal, psychological, health, housing, financial, immigration, and safety needs, including clients residing within refuge services.
Conduct intake assessments, client interviews, and referrals to understand client circumstances, challenges, strengths, and support requirements.
Develop, implement, prioritise, monitor, and review individualised case plans to support client safety, stability, and independence.
Provide trauma-informed support, crisis counselling, expert advice, safety assessments, risk assessments (including DVSAT), and safety planning.
Deliver intensive casework and strengths-based case management to support clients experiencing family and domestic violence and other complex challenges.
Provide information, practical assistance, advocacy, and warm referrals to appropriate government, community, and specialist services.
Identify safety needs and develop practical safety strategies and solutions with clients.
Advocate and liaise with government and non-government agencies, community organisations, welfare services, and other stakeholders to support clients' legal, health, housing, financial, immigration, employment, and social needs.
Develop and maintain strong referral networks, partnerships, and community relationships to improve access to services and resources.
Assess community needs and contribute to awareness of available health, welfare, housing, employment, training, and support services.
Support families, children, young people, and vulnerable individuals through education, advocacy, care, and appropriate service connections.
Respond to client requests for information, advice, referrals, and assistance in a timely manner.
Conduct safe outreach meetings where required, following risk management and safety procedures.
Maintain compliance with NSW Child Safe Standards and ensure protected practice in all casework activities.
Maintain accurate case notes, client records, database entries, reports, and file documentation.
Monitor and report on client progress, outcomes, risks, and service needs.
Participate in supervision, team meetings, professional development, reflective practice, and after-hours on-call duties as required.
Prepare reports, submissions, and documentation relating to client outcomes, funding, resources, and service improvement.
Deliver trauma-informed, safe, respectful, and effective casework services aligned with organisational values.
Maintain accurate and timely client records and database information.
Collaborate effectively with the casework team, Community Programs team, and external service providers.
Contribute to team discussions, projects, and tasks as directed by the Refuge and Casework Manager.
Participate in meetings, planning activities, supervision, and ongoing career development.
Comply with organisational policies, procedures, Code of Conduct, workplace health and safety requirements, and relevant community sector standards.
Undertake other duties relevant to the position as required.
Qualifications and Skills: Tertiary qualification in Social Work, eligible for membership with the AASW.
Minimum One- three years' experience as a social worker, with demonstrated experience and specialisation in the domestic and family violence sector.
Strong understanding of the complexities, impacts, and dynamics of domestic and family violence.
Experience conducting client assessments, crisis responses, risk assessments, and safety planning.
Ability to maintain accurate and confidential client records, including sensitive information.
Demonstrated commitment to trauma-informed, person-centred, strengths-based, and feminist practice approaches.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills, with a compassionate and professional approach.
Well-developed administrative and organisational skills, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to manage competing priorities, work independently, and effectively manage time.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience developing and maintaining collaborative relationships with multidisciplinary services, agencies, and community stakeholders.
Desirable Experience, Skills and Qualifications Experience conducting intake and referral processes within a domestic and family violence service.
Experience supporting clients residing in refuge accommodation.
Ability to communicate in a community language other than English (desirable).
Key Relationships Internal: Refuge and Casework Manager, Casework Team, Community Programs Manager.
External: Referring agencies, community services, and support networks.
Essential Requirements Current Working with Children Check and Police Check.
