IT Telecomms Data / Records Management Melbourne Permanent / Full Time Hybrid working model Must have strong retail banking background Chance to partner with senior leaders across the business We are seeking a Data Governance Manager to join a Melbourne-based financial services organisation undergoing a significant data maturity journey.
This is a highly visible role that will focus on reviewing and optimising the existing data governance framework while acting as a change agent to drive enterprise-wide adoption and accountability.
Opportunity: Reporting to senior leadership, you will take ownership of assessing the current governance landscape, identifying gaps and opportunities, and developing a pragmatic roadmap to strengthen governance capabilities across the organisation.
Success in this role will be measured not only by the quality of governance frameworks and controls established, but by your ability to engage stakeholders, influence behaviours, and embed a strong data culture across business and technology teams.
Key Responsibilities: Review and assess the current data governance operating model, framework, policies, and processes Identify gaps, risks, and opportunities to improve data governance maturity Develop and implement a practical roadmap for governance enhancement and adoption Establish clear ownership, stewardship,



and accountability for critical data assets Drive enterprise-wide engagement and education initiatives to improve governance awareness and compliance Partner with business and technology leaders to embed governance practices into day-to-day operations Lead data quality, metadata, data lineage, and master data governance initiatives Develop governance metrics, reporting, and KPIs to measure effectiveness and adoption Support regulatory, risk, privacy, and compliance requirements relating to data management Champion a culture of data accountability and continuous improvement Requirements: Proven experience in Data Governance, Data Management, Data Quality, or a related discipline Demonstrated success implementing or uplifting data governance frameworks within complex organisations Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to engage executives and operational teams alike Experience driving organisational change and embedding new ways of working Knowledge of data governance frameworks such as DAMA-DMBOK, DCAM, or equivalent Understanding of data quality, metadata management, data lineage, and master data management principles Previous experience working in the retail banking space Experience working with governance tools and data cataloguing platforms is highly regarded Strong communication, facilitation, and change management capabilities If you are passionate about improving data maturity, influencing organisational change, and helping businesses unlock the value of their data, we'd love to hear from you.
