2.5 days a week | 6-Month Contract Located at any Kaplan Business School campus or remote by arrangement We value a positive and supportive work environment Role Kaplan Business School's Academic Learning Team is seeking a highly organised and detail-oriented Editorial Assistant to support the operations of the Journal of Applied Learning and Teaching (JALT) .
This part-time, six-month contract role is ideal for someone with strong administrative and written communication skills who has an interest in academic publishing, scholarly communication, and higher education.
Working closely with the Director, Academic Learning, you will provide essential editorial and administrative support throughout the manuscript lifecycle, helping to ensure a professional experience for authors, reviewers, editors, and journal partners.
This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in academic journal operations while contributing to a respected publication in the higher education sector.
Key Responsibilities Monitor and manage the JALT editorial inbox, responding to routine enquiries and escalating matters as required.
Coordinate professional communication with authors, reviewers, editors, Associate Editors, and external stakeholders.
Maintain accurate manuscript tracking records, submission logs, reviewer databases, and editorial documentation.
Support peer review administration, including reviewer invitations, deadline monitoring, reminders, and workflow updates.
Assist with manuscript preparation, submission checks, file organisation, and document handovers throughout the editorial process.
Support copyediting and publication workflows through formatting checks, version control, and progress tracking.
Assist with journal platform administration, indexing records, calls for papers, promotional activities, and reporting.




Prepare spreadsheets, workflow summaries, status reports, and other administrative documentation to support journal operations.
Key Requirements Undergraduate qualification in a relevant discipline such as Education, Communications, Publishing, Business, Humanities, Social Sciences, or Administration.
Excellent written English skills with the ability to prepare professional correspondence and documentation.
Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy across multiple tasks and records.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams.
Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, monitor deadlines, and follow established processes.
Skilled approach to handling confidential information with discretion and integrity.
Interest in academic publishing, scholarly communication, research, or the higher education sector.
Previous experience in administration, publishing, academic support, journal administration, or familiarity with peer review processes will be highly regarded.
