The Paediatric Neurosurgery Senior Resident Medical Officer (SRMO) position at The Children's Hospital at Westmead is available for the current clinical year, up to 31 January 2027. The position provides an excellent stepping stone to higher Neurosurgical or Paediatric training and responsibilities since it brings together:

- supervised clinical exposure to neurosurgery,
- clinical teaching in common general paediatric and paediatric neurosurgical conditions,
- scenario based discussions on acute surgical challenges and case simulations led by experienced clinicians,
- opportunities to work in operating theatre environments,
- clinic and ward workplace care of patients with neurosurgical conditions,
- didactic teaching for RACS primaries or clinical research.

Candidates will work in a large JMO team comprising Senior Trainees and Fellows in addition to SRMOs. They will have an opportunity to sharpen their skills in bedside procedures, ED assessments and surgical assisting depending on the chosen career aims and preferences.

The Division of Neurology/Neurosrugery provides a wide range of services to children, some of whom will not necessarily undergo operative intervention but still require surgical care. Surgical services in which the SRMO may participate include neurosurgical acute and complex care including shunts, surgery, imaging and neurological monitoring.

Selection Criteria: * MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category

- Minimum two years postgraduate experience
- Demonstrated interest in neurosurgical or paediatric training
- Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with other health professionals. Please provide an example
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team which includes other medical staff, allied health staff, nursing staff and other ward staff to ensure the appropriate management of the patient. Please provide an example
- Demonstrated experience in taking comprehensive patient history, performing clinical examination and accurately documenting treatment in patient's record. Please provide an example
- Demonstrated skills in time management, prioritisation and problem solving
- Ongoing commitment to further education and professional development and demonstrated ability to teach, and willingness to participate in the teaching of Medical Students, Junior Medical Staff and other clinical staff
