What you'll be doing

The head of physiotherapy has the overall responsibility for physiotherapy service provided to the children and their families at The Children's Hospital at Westmead. This involves the day to day administrative and professional management of the staff of the physiotherapy department, but also this includes the professional responsibility of those physiotherapists who are employed by other departments within the hospital.

The Head of Department:

- Develops strategies and policies to ensure quality physiotherapy practice, ensure professional development and to attract and retain quality staff in a challenging work environment.
- Provides consultation at a senior level to other health professionals across the area, geographic region or clinical network both within and beyond the Sydney Children's Hospital Network.
- Applies extensive acknowledged and clinical skill set
- Leads and manages a team effectively, with highly developed interpersonal skills and extensive experience in communicating with a wide variety of people at all levels.
- Engages in policy development and promotion of a culture of continuous improvement based on evidence based practice
- Develops and works to a Business Plan using excellent organisational skills
- Works with children and families in an allied health setting within a hospital setting
- Shows understanding of and commitment to, the learning requirements of Physiotherapy students
- Utilises excellent written and oral communication skills, including computer literacy




- Reports operationally to the CARPA Clinical Program Director and professionally to Director of Allied Health.

- Senior Physiotherapist grade with extensive and acknowledged clinical skills and experience in a range of clinical areas, including experience in working with children and families in an allied health environment in a hospital setting.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team effectively, with highly developed interpersonal skills including excellent negotiation, decision making and advocacy skills and the ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, throughout all organisational levels. This requires excellent written and oral communication skills, including computer literacy
- Demonstrated ability in policy development, ability to provide in-depth advice, leadership and direction to enhance service delivery and to guide and support others in providing service excellence
- Demonstrated ability to develop and work to a Business Plan using excellent organisational skills and the ability to apply advanced reasoning skills and independent professional judgement when dealing with situations of a novel, complex or critical nature
- Demonstrated ability to act as a state wide clinical resource and consultant for health and other professionals in the tertiary Physiotherapy management of children & young people




- Demonstrated experience in, understanding of and commitment to promoting a culture of continuous quality improvement based on evidence based practice and a commitment to ongoing clinical and professional learning
- An understanding of the NSW Health system and knowledge of key reforms and strategic directions in NSW health, particularly in relation to paediatric and child health.
