Offshore Party Chief
We are seeking an experienced Survey Party Chief to lead offshore hydrographic survey operations across marine, subsea and offshore energy projects in Australia.
The Party Chief will be responsible for the planning, coordination and successful execution of offshore survey activities, leading the survey team and acting as the primary survey point of contact onboard the vessel.
This role requires strong technical knowledge, proven offshore leadership experience and the ability to manage survey operations while maintaining high standards of safety, data quality and project delivery.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate the offshore survey team and day-to-day survey operations.
- Take responsibility for the planning and execution of survey activities in accordance with project specifications, procedures and client requirements.
- Review survey specifications, scope of work and project requirements and translate these into practical offshore survey activities.
- Coordinate survey line planning and daily survey operations.
- Oversee offshore data acquisition, processing and quality control.
- Ensure survey data is complete, accurate and meets project and client requirements.
- Monitor survey progress and provide regular updates to project management and the client.
- Lead the preparation of survey reports, records, technical documentation and client deliverables.
- Liaise directly with clients,
contractors, suppliers, vessel crew and other project stakeholders.
- Coordinate closely with Survey Engineers/Technicians to ensure survey systems and equipment are operational and suitable for the required survey activities.
- Work closely with ROV teams and other offshore disciplines where survey activities interface with subsea operations.
- Support project and vessel mobilisation and demobilisation activities.
- Manage survey documentation and ensure records are maintained throughout the project.
- Identify and resolve technical and operational survey issues offshore.
- Ensure survey activities are carried out safely and in accordance with company, vessel and project HSE requirements.
- Maintain a strong understanding of relevant industry guidelines, standards and specifications, including IMCA requirements.
- Provide leadership, mentoring and technical guidance to Surveyors and junior survey personnel onboard.
About You
- Degree or Diploma in Hydrographic Surveying, Geomatics or a related discipline.
- Proven experience working as a Survey Party Chief or in a senior offshore survey position.
- Extensive offshore hydrographic survey experience.
- Strong understanding of hydrographic surveying and geomatics principles.
- Proven experience leading offshore survey teams and managing day-to-day survey operations.
- Strong experience in survey planning, data acquisition,
processing and quality control.
- Experience with project and vessel mobilisations.
- Strong client, contractor and supplier liaison experience.
- Experience with document management and survey reporting.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Strong understanding of offshore survey industry guidelines and specifications, including IMCA.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and make sound technical decisions in an offshore workplace.
- Full Australian working rights are essential.

Qualifications & Certifications
- Degree or Diploma in Hydrographic Surveying, Geomatics or a related discipline.
- Extensive offshore survey experience.
- Relevant offshore medical and safety certifications.
- Full Australian working rights.
