Offshore Survey Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Survey Engineer to support offshore hydrographic survey operations across marine, subsea and offshore energy projects in Australia.
The Survey Engineer will be responsible for the technical setup, configuration, calibration, operation and maintenance of offshore survey equipment and systems. Working closely with the Survey Party Chief and survey team, you will ensure survey systems are correctly configured, tested and operational throughout the project.
This role is suited to a technically capable survey professional with strong hands-on experience with offshore survey equipment, positioning systems and survey acquisition software.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide technical support for offshore hydrographic and survey operations.
- Lead the mobilisation, installation, configuration and testing of survey equipment and systems.
- Conduct equipment calibration, verification and validation in accordance with project requirements and manufacturer specifications.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with survey equipment and systems offshore.
- Maintain and monitor survey equipment to ensure reliable operation throughout the project.
- Support the Survey Party Chief with survey system configuration and technical planning.
- Operate and monitor survey acquisition systems during offshore operations.
- Support the integration of survey sensors, positioning systems and vessel interfaces.




- Maintain accurate equipment records, calibration documentation and technical reports.
- Conduct survey system checks, testing and fault finding throughout offshore operations.
- Support project and vessel mobilisation and demobilisation activities.
- Work closely with Survey Party Chiefs, Hydrographic Surveyors, vessel crew, ROV personnel and other offshore technical teams.
- Provide technical input into survey operations and assist with resolving equipment and data acquisition issues.
- Support data acquisition and quality control activities where required.
- Ensure all survey equipment and technical activities are managed in accordance with project procedures, HSE requirements and relevant industry standards.

About You

- Degree, Diploma or relevant technical qualification in Hydrographic Surveying, Survey Engineering, Geomatics, Electronics, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Proven experience as a Survey Engineer or similar offshore survey position.
- Strong hands-on experience with offshore hydrographic survey equipment and systems.
- Experience with survey equipment installation, configuration, testing and calibration.
- Strong troubleshooting and fault-finding skills.
- Strong understanding of hydrographic survey principles and offshore positioning systems.
- Experience with project and vessel mobilisations.
- Strong document management and technical reporting skills.




- Ability to work effectively with Survey Party Chiefs, Hydrographic Surveyors, vessel crew, ROV teams and project stakeholders.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Safety-focused with a solid understanding of offshore working environments.
- Full Australian working rights are essential.

- USBL / LBL systems
- MBES
- GNSS and positioning systems
- INS / motion reference systems
- Sound velocity profilers and sensors
- Tide gauges
- Current meters
- AUV survey systems
- ROV survey systems and interfaces
- Geophysical survey equipment
- Survey sensor integration and vessel interfaces
- GIS and hydrographic data processing systems

Qualifications & Certifications
- Relevant qualification or technical experience in Hydrographic Surveying, Survey Engineering, Geomatics, Electronics, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Relevant offshore survey experience.
- Experience with survey equipment calibration and technical support.
- Current offshore medical and relevant offshore safety certifications.
- Full Australian working rights.
