Operations Manager Required | Bespoke Joinery & Kitchens | Western Sydney | Full-Time, Permanent | $140K - $160K + Super + Bonus Structure
About the Prospect
I am partnering with an established Sydney joinery business specialising in the design, manufacture and installation of high-end kitchens, bespoke cabinetry and custom residential joinery.
The business has built a strong reputation for quality craftsmanship, attention to detail and bespoke solutions, delivering projects across some of Sydney's most prestigious residential locations.
As the business continues to grow, they are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to take ownership of the day-to-day coordination and operational performance of the business.
This is a hands-on leadership position suited to someone who understands joinery manufacturing from the workshop floor through to installation.
You will work closely with the Director and workshop team to ensure projects are manufactured efficiently, materials are available when required, logistics are coordinated and jobs move through the business without unnecessary delays.
You will be the key link between the Director, office, workshop, suppliers, transport providers, removalists and installation teams, ensuring everyone has the information and resources required to deliver projects to a high standard.
This is not a purely administrative management position. The successful candidate will need to be hands-on, commercially minded, highly organised and comfortable operating within a busy joinery workshop environment.
Workshop Operations
- Oversee the day-to-day operational flow of the joinery workshop.
- Communicate closely with workshop staff regarding current and upcoming projects.
- Monitor production progress and ensure jobs remain on schedule.
- Identify potential production issues before they impact project deadlines.
- Coordinate priorities across multiple jobs and ensure the workshop understands what needs to be completed and when.
- Work closely with the Director and workshop team to improve production efficiency.
- Maintain clear communication between the office, workshop and installation teams.
- Ensure finished joinery is ready for collection, delivery or installation at the required time.
- Assist with resolving manufacturing issues, changes and unexpected challenges.
- Maintain a strong focus on quality control and high standards of workmanship.
Materials & Procurement
- Take responsibility for ordering materials required for production.
- Coordinate purchasing with suppliers and ensure materials arrive when required.
- Monitor material requirements against current and upcoming jobs.
- Liaise with suppliers regarding availability, lead times, pricing and delivery.
- Identify potential material shortages early and take action to prevent production delays.
- Ensure the workshop has the correct materials, hardware and components available to complete projects.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers.
- Identify opportunities to improve purchasing efficiency and control costs.
Logistics & Deliveries
- Coordinate the movement of completed joinery from the workshop to site.
- Liaise with removalists, transport providers and delivery teams.
- Organise deliveries around site requirements and installation schedules.
- Ensure joinery is ready and correctly prepared before leaving the workshop.
- Coordinate with installers to ensure deliveries arrive when required.
- Resolve logistical issues quickly where changes occur.
- Ensure communication between the workshop, transport providers and site teams remains clear.
Communication & Team Coordination
- Act as a central point of communication between the Director, workshop and external parties.
- Maintain an active presence within company communication channels, including WhatsApp.
- Ensure significant job updates,
changes and instructions are communicated to the relevant team members.
- Follow up outstanding actions and ensure commitments are delivered.
- Keep the Director informed of production progress, delays, material issues and operational concerns.
- Build strong working relationships with workshop staff, installers, suppliers and contractors.
- Provide clear direction and maintain accountability across the operational process.
Technical & Manufacturing Understanding
The successful candidate must have a genuine understanding of joinery manufacturing.
You will not necessarily need to be a CNC programmer, however you must understand:
- How CNC machinery operates within a modern joinery workshop.
- The role CNC plays within the manufacturing process.
- How components move from drawings/design through CNC production, assembly and installation.
- Basic CNC workflow and production requirements.
- How to identify potential manufacturing issues.
- The relationship between drafting, materials, CNC production, assembly and installation.
- How to communicate effectively with experienced cabinetmakers and workshop staff.
A strong background in cabinetmaking, joinery manufacturing, kitchen manufacturing, production management or workshop management would be highly advantageous.
Production & Project Coordination
The Operations Manager will have visibility across the entire operational process:
Design / Drawings → Materials → CNC / Production → Assembly → Quality Control → Delivery → Installation
You will be responsible for ensuring each stage is properly coordinated and that issues are addressed before they become costly delays.
Responsibilities will include:
- Monitoring project timelines.
- Coordinating production priorities.
- Tracking job progress.
- Identifying bottlenecks.
- Coordinating materials and procurement.
- Communicating changes to the workshop.
- Coordinating logistics and deliveries.
- Supporting installation scheduling.
- Ensuring projects remain on track.
- Escalating significant issues to the Director.
Leadership & Continuous Improvement
This role will suit someone who naturally looks at how things can be done better.
You will be expected to:
- Improve workshop communication and organisation.
- Identify inefficiencies within production and logistics.
- Improve material ordering and inventory processes.
- Reduce unnecessary delays and rework.
- Improve communication between office and workshop.
- Establish greater accountability around deadlines.
- Help create a more structured and predictable production process.
- Support the development of workshop staff.
- Implement practical systems that improve operational performance without creating unnecessary bureaucracy.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in joinery, cabinetmaking, kitchen manufacturing or a closely related manufacturing environment.
Essential
- Strong experience within joinery, cabinetry, kitchen manufacturing or a similar environment.
- Proven experience coordinating workshop operations and production.

- Experience coordinating deliveries, removalists and installation teams.
- Experience working with builders, designers and other construction professionals.

- Detail-oriented.
- Calm under pressure.
- Able to prioritise competing deadlines.
- A natural problem solver.
- Accountable and reliable.

You will need to be the type of person who sees a potential issue with a job, material order or delivery before it becomes a problem for the client or workshop.
Why Consider the Opportunity?
This is an opportunity to join an established Sydney joinery business with a strong reputation for high-quality bespoke work and craftsmanship.
You will be involved in projects where quality and attention to detail are critical, rather than working within a high-volume, repetitive production environment.
The opportunity offers:
- Genuine ownership of business operations.
- Direct interaction with the Director.
- The ability to influence and improve workshop processes.
- Exposure across the full manufacturing and installation lifecycle.
- High-end residential and bespoke projects.
- The opportunity to work alongside experienced joinery professionals.
- A key role in improving efficiency, communication and project delivery.
- A competitive $140K-$160K + Super + Bonus Structure package.

- Ensure materials are available when required.
- Minimise production delays and rework.
- Maintain clear communication across the business.
- Coordinate deliveries and logistics effectively.
