Switchboard Designer

Core Talent are currently partnering with an established electrical engineering and manufacturing business to appoint an experienced Switchboard Designer to join their Perth-based team.
This is a great opportunity for a technically capable designer with strong AutoCAD skills and practical switchboard experience to work across the full design process, from client requirements through to manufacture and commissioning.

The Role
Working closely with the Lead Switchboard Designer and wider engineering team, you will be responsible for developing detailed and compliant switchboard designs, drawings and documentation.
Your responsibilities will include:

- Designing and drafting distribution switchboards, motor control switchboards, control panels and associated electrical systems.
- Producing detailed designs and drawings using AutoCAD.
- Reading and interpreting Single Line, Schematic, Three-Line, Block and Termination Diagrams.
- Interpreting technical specifications and ensuring designs comply with relevant Australian Standards.
- Applying AS 61439, AS 3000 and Australian Wiring Rules to switchboard designs.
- Preparing Bills of Materials (BOMs) and Label Lists using Excel.
- Reviewing and checking drawings and designs produced by others.
- Preparing design layouts, specifications, material lists and technical documentation.
- Working closely with electrical engineers, project engineers,



manufacturing teams, clients and suppliers.
- Supporting factory inspections and activities associated with manufacturing, installation and commissioning.
- Contributing to improvements in design processes, efficiency and standardisation.

About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:

- Advanced AutoCAD skills.
- Proven experience in switchboard design and/or assembly.
- The ability to confidently read and interpret a range of electrical drawings and diagrams.
- Sound knowledge of AS 61439, AS 3000 and Australian Wiring Rules.
- Strong Excel skills, particularly for creating Bills of Materials and Label Lists.
- A degree or trade qualification in Switchboard Design, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Either:

- 1+ year of electrical engineering, design engineering or project engineering experience, or
- 3+ years of switchboard designer/assembler experience.

Desirable Experience
Previous experience working with the technical specifications and requirements of major WA mining clients, including Rio Tinto, BHP or Fortescue, would be highly regarded.
