Optus

Sydney

Every day, millions of Australians connect, work, stream, and stay in touch on the Optus network. When it works seamlessly, it's easy to take for granted. But behind it is a team making thousands of decisions every day - decisions that keep people, businesses and communities connected.

Right now, Optus is passionate about getting the fundamentals right - simplifying how we work, lifting standards, and building a more reliable, resilient experience for our customers. It's not about surface-level change. It's about how we make decisions, how we work together, and how we deliver.

The Senior Analyst is a risk-focused practitioner within the Network Delivery Office, responsible for supporting the identification, assessment, treatment, monitoring, and reporting of risks across Optus Networks. The role combines practical risk-management capability with a working understanding of mobile network architecture and delivery, enabling the analyst to provide clear insights for senior leaders and decision-makers, challenge risk information, and identify emerging exposures. The role works closely with engineering, operations, delivery, and governance teams to maintain credible risk information and strengthen risk-based decision-making.

Your day to day will consist of

- Own and maintain the Networks risk register, ensuring risks are accurately documented with clear causes, impacts, controls, treatments, ownership, ratings, and review dates.
- Review and challenge risk inputs from network teams to improve the quality, consistency, completeness, and effectiveness of risk information.
- Facilitate risk identification and assessment activities with engineering and delivery teams, highlighting emerging operational, vendor, dependency, and delivery risks.
- Assess inherent and residual risks, identify control or treatment gaps, and escalate significant risk exposures where required.

- Monitor risk treatments and control actions, track overdue commitments, and provide reporting, dashboards, and executive summaries to support governance and decision-making.
- Analyse risk trends across the network portfolio and apply mobile network delivery knowledge to translate technical issues into meaningful risk insights, recommendations, and stakeholder communications.

What makes you perfect for the role

- 3-5 years' experience in risk, governance, controls, technical analysis, or related roles within telecommunications, technology, infrastructure, or complex delivery environments.
- Strong understanding of risk management principles, including risk identification, assessment, controls, treatments, ownership, escalation, and ongoing monitoring.
- Proven ability to evaluate and improve risk statements, challenge risk ratings and controls, and ensure the quality and accuracy of supporting information.
- Working knowledge of mobile network architecture and the ability to assess how technical changes, constraints, dependencies, and control weaknesses impact business outcomes.
- Strong analytical skills with experience identifying risk trends, emerging issues, concentrations, and exposures from complex data and information sources.
- Excellent communication, reporting, and stakeholder management skills, with experience using tools such as Excel, Power BI, or Tableau and the ability to explain technical risks to both technical and non-technical audiences.
