The Registered Midwife – MGP provides continuity of midwifery care within a caseload model, supporting women and families throughout pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period. Care is delivered across hospital and community environments and in partnership with multidisciplinary teams.
The role requires the ability to work autonomously while maintaining strong collaborative relationships, using sound clinical judgement to recognise, manage and escalate care when required. The midwife contributes to service quality, safety, education and professional practice development, in alignment with Benalla Health values and governance frameworks.
As a Registered Midwife in the MGP model, you will act as the primary point of contact for women and their families, fostering strong therapeutic relationships and supporting informed decision‑making. You will work collaboratively with a small team of MGP midwives, GP Obstetricians, allied health professionals and the broader maternity service to ensure seamless, safe and high‑quality care across the continuum.
The position operates within Benalla Health’s Continuum of Care directorate and is underpinned by organisational policies, clinical guidelines and Safer Care Victoria standards. Midwives in this role are expected to demonstrate a high level of clinical competence, qualified accountability and autonomy,
including on‑call responsibilities as part of the caseload model.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide continuity of midwifery care to a defined caseload of women.
- Deliver antenatal care, labour and birth support, postnatal and early parenting care.
- Act as the primary point of contact and provide on‑call care as required.
- Build respectful, trusting relationships with women and families.
- Work collaboratively with MGP colleagues, GP Obstetricians and multidisciplinary teams.
- Identify and escalate clinical concerns in accordance with guidelines and policies.
- Contribute to quality improvement, clinical governance, education and mentoring.
Essential Criteria
- Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Midwife.
- Demonstrated capacity to work within a continuity of care / caseload model.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and clinical decision‑making skills.
- Commitment to evidence‑based practice and ongoing professional development.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
