Cosy and Tasty Chinese Dumpling Restaurant – Frankston VIC
We are a well-loved dine-in restaurant on the Mornington Peninsula, recognised for our handmade dumplings and traditional Chinese cuisine.
We are looking for an experienced, reliable full-time Cook to join our busy kitchen team. You will work closely with our head chef and kitchen staff to prepare and cook a wide variety of Chinese dishes to a consistently high standard, in a fast-paced but supportive environment.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare and cook a wide range of Chinese dishes, including handmade dumplings (steamed and grilled), wok-fried dishes, noodles, soups and rice dishes, in accordance with the restaurant's menu and recipes.
- Examine foodstuffs such as meat, seafood and vegetables to ensure freshness and quality before use in food preparation.
- Regulate and monitor the temperature of woks, steamers, grills and other kitchen equipment to ensure food is cooked correctly, evenly and safely.
- Season food during cooking, including preparing sauces to maintain consistent flavour and quality.
- Portion and plate dishes, adding garnishes, sauces and gravies to meet the restaurant's presentation standards.
- Store raw and prepared food correctly in temperature-controlled facilities, in line with food safety and hygiene requirements.
- Prepare dishes to meet special dietary requirements, including vegetarian and low-gluten options as identified on the menu.
- Assist with planning menu items and estimating the quantities of ingredients required for daily service.
- Monitor stock levels of kitchen ingredients and notify management when reordering is required.
- Maintain a clean, organised and hygienic kitchen and work area in compliance with food safety regulations.
- Work collaboratively with other kitchen and front-of-house staff to ensure smooth, efficient service during busy periods.
What we're looking for
Qualification: Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery (or equivalent trade qualification) preferred. Candidates without a formal qualification but with substantial, relevant full-time cooking experience will also be considered.
Experience: Minimum 1 year of full-time (or equivalent part-time/casual) experience working as a Cook in a commercial kitchen.
Sound knowledge of food safety, hygiene and workplace health & safety practices.
Experience with Chinese cuisine (dumplings, wok cooking, noodles) highly regarded but not essential.
Ability to work efficiently in a quick-paced kitchen, including some weekends and public holidays.
