Heatley Secondary College is seeking a proactive and enthusiastic AO4 Project Officer to support the delivery of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Project: People, Culture & Country. This exciting initiative aims to empower primary and secondary students to design and create wearable art pieces for display at exhibitions and events across North Queensland. The position involves working both on and offsite, with some travel across North Queensland required to support schools and coordinate project events. This temporary vacancy is open to Expressions of Interest and any extensions to this appointment will not exceed 12 months.

About The Role

The People, Culture & Country project provides opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students from across North Queensland to make connections with their family's culture to land, sea, and sky. Non-Indigenous students are also participants in the project. Students design and create inspirational pieces of wearable art which educates and informs, not only education staff, but the wider non-Indigenous community. The project is a way of linking the oldest traditional art in the world with the rich diversity of contemporary artistic practice in our multicultural society. This role offers a unique chance to contribute to a culturally significant project that celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts and fosters creativity among young people. In this role, you will collaborate closely with the Project Manager, schools,



and community stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of project activities.

Responsibilities Include

- Assisting schools in facilitating student participation in wearable arts projects.
- Supporting the planning, coordination, and delivery of exhibitions and events.
- Setting up and relocating static displays at various locations, which may involve some physical tasks.
- Developing and maintaining administrative systems and processes to maximise the effectiveness of project information.
- Assisting in coordinating the implementation of policies, practices and procedures, relating to the project.
- Resolving operational problems and assisting in the development and implementation of initiatives, policies, processes and systems for effective and efficient administration of the project.
- Preparing reports and submissions on a range of specific project services and responding to related matters identified during the review process.
- Attending meetings with College/Governance Committee officers to discuss, evaluate and review systems and procedures.
- Assisting in the dissemination of project information to participating schools and members of the public.
- Developing and maintaining positive relationships with staff, participating schools, industry, business and community partners, working collaboratively to develop and deliver project activities, strengthen partnerships, promote the project and enhance project outcomes.
