The Configuration Manager SHFC provides specialist Configuration Management (CM) services supporting the acquisition and sustainment of Strategic High Frequency Capability (SHFC) across the JP9101 and CJC10 programs. The position is responsible for establishing, implementing and assuring Defence Configuration Management frameworks, processes and governance throughout the capability lifecycle. This includes configuration planning, change management, baseline control, audit activities, engineering governance and configuration assurance across complex Defence systems.
Working under the Director SHFC (EL2), the successful candidate will collaborate closely with Engineering Managers, Technical Authorities, Project Managers and Defence Industry partners to ensure configuration integrity is maintained from requirements development through to sustainment.
This role requires an experienced Configuration Management professional capable of exercising significant qualified judgement while providing authoritative advice to senior Defence stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Configuration Management Framework
- Establish and maintain the SHFC Configuration Management Framework.
- Ensure alignment with Defence policy.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Apply recognised Configuration Management standards.
- Continuously improve CM processes.
Governance & Compliance
- Implement Configuration Management policies and procedures.
- Maintain Configuration Management data standards.
- Provide Configuration Management advice to engineering leadership.
- Support governance, assurance and risk management activities.
- Ensure configuration activities remain auditable and traceable.
- Support certification and operational acceptance activities.
Configuration Identification & Baselines
Manage Configuration Items (CIs) throughout the system lifecycle, including:
- Improve Configuration Management processes.
- Improve Configuration Management tools.
- Improve data quality.
- Maintain knowledge of Defence Configuration Management standards.
- Contribute to organisational capability uplift.
Essential Experience & Skills
- Extensive Configuration Management experience within Defence or comparable engineering environments.
- Experience across both acquisition and sustainment.
- Strong understanding of Configuration Management principles and frameworks.
- Experience implementing Configuration Management across complex multi‑stakeholder programs.
- Ability to interpret Defence policy and technical frameworks.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills.
- Ability to operate independently with sound professional judgement.
Desirable Experience
- CASG experience.
- ASDEFCON contracting frameworks.
- Systems Engineering lifecycle knowledge.
- Integration of Systems Engineering and Configuration Management.
- Experience using Configuration Management tools such as DOORS.
Qualifications
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Engineering or a related discipline.
- Equivalent demonstrated industry experience.
