Position: Chef
Salary: $79,000 to $85,000 per annum + 12% Superannuation
Hours: 38 hours per week
Mode: Full-time
Location: 95 Mitchell Street, Bendigo, VIC 3550
Experience required: Minimum 1 year experience as a qualified Chef
8 Sisters Café and Grill is seeking an experienced and qualified Chef to join our kitchen team at our Bendigo venue. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the daily kitchen operations, preparing and presenting high-quality food, leading kitchen staff, maintaining food safety standards, and ensuring efficient and consistent service.
Duties and Responsibilities (but not limited to):
Kitchen Operations
● Ensure food and beverage revenues are maximised
● Train, update and communicate any relevant changes to staff (e.g., daily specials, changes to menus, implementation of new processes etc.).
● Research and recommend changes to improve the overall efficiency of the kitchen.
● Manage and lead the kitchen team.
● Coordinate daily food requirements considering delivery times, shelf life and storage capabilities.
● Ensure food standards, preparation, presentation, and cooking techniques are established and monitored.
● Prepare, cook, and present food.
● Ensure the kitchen team are compliant with food safety and hygiene standards.
● Assess the quality of products and the services being delivered by the kitchen.
● Keep abreast of and respond to changes in food styles and service trends.
● Report maintenance issues as they arise and ensure equipment is safe to operate.
● Maintain a thorough knowledge of food and beverage products, as well as an understanding of non-food and beverage products.
● Problem-solve escalated customer complaints and queries in conjunction with the Head Waiter/Waitress.
● Complete kitchen opening and closing procedures.
● Follow all relevant health department regulations.
● Assist other kitchen and FOH staff as required.
People Management
● Provide recent starter training to kitchen staff.
● Provide employees with feedback on their performance in an objective and timely manner.
General
● Develop and maintain effective relationships with the management team and employees at all levels across the business.
● Always develop and maintain effective relationships with key external stakeholders.
● Actively participate in team meetings.
● Ensure conformance to all relevant company policies and procedures and relevant Acts and legislation.
● Ensure adherence and obligation for a safe workplace in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004.
● Undertake other duties including project work and corrective action initiatives as required.

Qualifications:
● Apprenticeship and Minimum 1 year experience as a qualified Chef.
● Certificate III or IV in Commercial Cookery or equivalent (preferred but not required).
● Diploma of Hospitality Management (preferred but not required).
Other Skills and Requirements:
● Experience in a similar role within the hospitality industry.
● Proven experience in supervising staff.
● Proven ability to take responsibility and work autonomously.
● Ability to multitask and problem-solve quickly.
● Sound knowledge of work health and safety responsibilities and a commitment to workplace health and safety and safe food handling and hygiene.
● Effective time management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities, volume and deadlines.
● The ability to stay calm whilst working under pressure, make appropriate decisions quickly while maintaining professionalism and a positive attitude.
● Excellent communication skills (written, verbal and listening).
● Strong attention to detail and speed.
● Initiative and willingness to learn.
● Ability to work under pressure while maintaining professionalism and a positive attitude.
● Ability to work as part of a team and interact positively with others.
● Ability to train, communicate and supervise staff effectively.
