About the role
Hancock Iron Ore is seeking a Senior Advisor Heritage and Pastoral to play a key role in supporting responsible operations across our Pilbara footprint.
This position will lead the implementation of heritage compliance requirements and practical heritage management strategies, helping ensure ground disturbance activities are planned and delivered with care, respect and strong governance. Working closely with heritage consultants, Native Title group representatives, Aboriginal Cultural Heritage monitors, and pastoral station managers, you will build trusted relationships and coordinate field-based activities that support cultural heritage protection, operational readiness and our ongoing licence to operate.
This is a highly engaging role for someone who can balance compliance, stakeholder engagement and on-the-ground delivery while contributing to Hancock Iron Ore's commitment to respecting Country, protecting Aboriginal Cultural Heritage and working collaboratively with our communities and partners. This position will be working a FIFO 8/6 roster, from Perth to Sanjiv Ridge with travel to other Pilbara-based sites as needed.
Duties
- Provide active, field-based safety leadership and promote a strong HSE culture through visible leadership, incident reporting, investigation support and timely close-out of actions
- Build and maintain effective working relationships across site teams, pastoral station managers, heritage consultants, Native Title group representatives and Traditional Owner monitors
- Coordinate and support heritage field activities, including risk assessments, logistics, equipment, GIS/GPS preparation, contractor supervision, daily reporting and accurate record keeping
- Support heritage compliance for ground disturbance activities by reviewing LUCs and WINs, attending ground disturbance meetings, coordinating monitors and ensuring heritage conditions are understood and met
- Act as a key site contact for heritage compliance, guiding work groups, promoting awareness of heritage obligations and assisting with investigations where required
- Support the management of Aboriginal Cultural Heritage materials, artefact collections, cultural displays and associated records in line with required processes
- Liaise with pastoral station managers to support access agreement compliance, muster planning, cattle-related incident management and effective communication between pastoralists and site teams
Skills and experience
- Demonstrated experience in Aboriginal Cultural Heritage, with some experience gained in a similar role within the mining industry
- Experience working respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal people, Native Title groups and culturally diverse stakeholders
- Working knowledge of Aboriginal Cultural Heritage legislation, including the Aboriginal Heritage Act 1972(WA) and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Heritage Protection Act 1984(Cth)
- Demonstrated experience supporting heritage compliance activities, stakeholder engagement, field-based work and cultural heritage processes in an operational setting
- Competency using Microsoft Office and GIS-based systems or tools to support heritage activities, reporting, mapping and record management
- Current valid Western Australian manual C class driver's licence, advanced 4WD training and current advanced first aid qualification
- Experience working with pastoralists, land-connected people or remote Aboriginal communities will be highly regarded
