General Hand – Casual Position (Approximately 20-25 hours per week)

About the Role

The General Hand is a valued member of the Properties Team, contributing to the upkeep and presentation of the College’s buildings, gardens, and surrounding land. This hands-on role involves a variety of tasks including assisting with waste management, maintaining roads and footpaths, supporting function set-ups, and performing general labouring, porterage, and maintenance duties.

A key focus of this position is supporting the Grounds & Turf Management in maintaining the College’s playing ovals and sports grounds to a secure and high-quality standard. This includes helping to ensure turf surfaces are green and healthy and contributing to seasonal grounds preparation and irrigation.

Key Selection Criteria: Qualifications, Skills and Experience





- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to form sound working relationships with people from all backgrounds
- Strong time management and organisational skills with the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines
- Proven ability to undertake general hand duties and building maintenance tasks, including safe use of machinery (in particular turf management equipment and machinery) and tools.
- Demonstrated ability to work safely and follow instructions and safe operating procedures
- Experience or interest in turf and grounds maintenance is highly desirable

To be successful, you'll bring energy, reliability, and a self-motivated, positive can-do attitude. You’ll enjoy working outdoors and be comfortable performing manual tasks in a dynamic team environment. The ability to safely carry out hands-on duties is important.
