Green Earth Gardens seeks full-time Gardener
The successful candidate will report to the Operations Manager and will be responsible for establishing, maintaining and improving landscaped gardens, lawns and outdoor environments across residential, commercial and public properties.
The position requires sound horticultural knowledge, practical gardening skills, and the ability to independently maintain gardens to a consistently high standard while ensuring compliance with workplace health and safety requirements.
The role involves plant cultivation, lawn maintenance, irrigation management, pruning, pest and disease control, soil improvement and the operation of gardening machinery and equipment.
The General Gardener will undertake the following duties:
• Prepare and maintain garden beds, planting areas and growing sites through cultivation, soil conditioning and application of organic matter and fertilisers.• Propagate, plant and establish trees, shrubs, hedges, flowers, ground covers and other ornamental plants appropriate to local climatic conditions.• Prepare lawn areas by levelling ground, applying topsoil, sowing seed and laying instant turf.• Maintain lawns and landscaped areas through mowing, edging, watering, aeration, fertilising, top dressing and weed control.• Prune, shape and maintain trees, hedges and shrubs to encourage healthy growth while maintaining aesthetic presentation.• Install plant supports, guards and protective devices where required to promote healthy plant establishment.• Monitor the health of plants, lawns and trees, identifying pests, diseases and nutrient deficiencies and implementing appropriate treatment programs.• Apply herbicides,
pesticides and fungicides safely and in accordance with environmental and legislative requirements.• Operate and maintain irrigation systems to ensure efficient watering of gardens and landscaped areas.• Inspect landscaped areas regularly and recommend improvements to planting, soil condition and irrigation efficiency.• Operate, clean and maintain gardening equipment including lawn mowers, brush cutters, hedge trimmers, chainsaws, blowers and other horticultural machinery.• Assist with seasonal planting programs and landscape enhancement projects.• Remove green waste and maintain work sites in a clean, secure and environmentally responsible manner.• Maintain records of maintenance activities, and equipment servicing where required.• Liaise professionally with supervisors, clients and contractors regarding maintenance schedules and horticultural requirements.• Ensure compliance with all Workplace Health and Safety legislation, safe work procedures and environmental regulations.
Skills and Knowledge
The successful applicant will demonstrate:
• Sound knowledge of horticultural practices and plant maintenance.• Knowledge of Australian plant species, trees, shrubs and turf varieties.• Understanding of soil preparation,
fertilisation and irrigation techniques.• Ability to identify common plant pests, diseases and treatment methods.• Competence in operating horticultural machinery and powered garden equipment.• Knowledge of safe chemical handling and environmental management.• Good organisational and time management skills.• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.• Strong communication skills.• Physical fitness suitable for manual outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should possess:
• AQF Certificate III in Horticulture, Parks and Gardens, or a closely related qualification;
OR
• At least three years of full-time relevant qualified gardening experience.
The following would be advantageous:
• Current Driver's Licence.• First Aid Certificate (desirable).The successful applicant will demonstrate:

The role requires the ability to:
• Perform repetitive manual tasks.• Lift and carry gardening materials and equipment.• Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.• Stand, bend, kneel and walk for extended periods.• Safely operate powered gardening machinery.
