Are you passionate about food service and customer care? Join Western District Health Service as a Food & Domestic Services Assistant, where you'll play an important role in delivering quality food and beverage services to patients, aged care residents, Meals on Wheels clients, visitors, and staff.
This is a role for someone who enjoys working in a busy hospitality environment, who is willing to learn and assist in backfilling supervisor shifts within the kitchen, takes pride in preparing and presenting nutritious food, and values providing exceptional customer service. As part of our motivated and innovative team, you'll contribute to creating positive experiences for our customers while supporting the delivery of high-quality food services across WDHS.
What You'll Be Doing
As part of our dedicated Food Services team, you'll support the delivery of quality food and beverage services to patients, residents, visitors, staff, and Meals on Wheels clients while contributing to a positive customer experience across Western District Health Service.
Customer Service Excellence —
Provide friendly, professional, and compassionate customer service to patients, residents, visitors, staff, and café customers, ensuring a positive experience at every interaction.
Food Preparation & Service —
Assist with basic cooking, food preparation, vegetable and sandwich preparation, meal presentation, and meal service while maintaining high-quality standards.
Food Safety & Hygiene —
Apply sound food hygiene and food safety practices to ensure all food is prepared, handled, and served in accordance with relevant standards and procedures.
Healthy Choice Promotion —
Support the WDHS Healthy Choice philosophy by promoting nutritious food options and demonstrating an understanding of the Healthy Choice Guidelines.
Teamwork & Collaboration —
Work collaboratively with colleagues across multiple areas of the Food Services Department, contributing to a positive, respectful, and supportive team environment.
Organisation & Time Management —
Use effective planning, organisational, and time management skills to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines, and support efficient daily operations.
Kitchen & Café Operations —
Undertake general cleaning, kitchen hand duties, cafeteria support, meal delivery and collection, and other food service activities as required.
What You Bring
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate respectfully and professionally with consumers, visitors, and staff.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while maintaining positive relationships with supervisors, colleagues, and consumers.
- A commitment to ongoing personal and professional development, with a willingness to learn and continuously improve skills and knowledge.
- The ability to demonstrate flexibility, adaptability, and initiative in a agile and fast-paced work environment.
- The physical capability to remain on your feet for the duration of a shift and undertake the physical requirements of the role.

- A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to contribute across multiple areas of the Food Services Department.
