STRATEGIC FABRICATIONS
Clontarf
Strategic Fabrications is growing, with a strong pipeline of structural steel projects across South East Queensland. We're hiring for two roles right now — an experienced On-Site Boilermaker/Rigger for our install crews, and a Hybrid Workshop Boilermaker based in our Clontarf shed. Immediate starts available.
1. On-Site Boilermaker / Rigger (Experienced)
This is the sharp end of the job — steel erection, site installation, and site welding on live construction sites, working with cranes, EWPs and builder site teams. We need someone who has done this before and can hit the ground running.
What you'll be doing:
- Structural steel erection and installation on commercial construction sites
- Rigging and dogging duties — crane lifts, load control, communicating with crane crews
- Site welding and remedial/modification work (positional welding, not just downhand)
- Working to erection drawings, site measures, and install sequences
- Working under Strategic Fabrications and client/builder safety plans, SWMS and permits
What you'll need:
- Trade-qualified Boilermaker (Cert III Engineering – Heavy Fabrication or equivalent) with proven in office structural steel experience — this role is not suited to workshop-only tradespeople
- High Risk Work Licences: Dogging (DG) and/or Rigging (RB/RI) — essential
- EWP licence (WP) — essential; forklift (LF) desirable
- Construction Induction White Card
- Ability to pass a weld test to AS/NZS 1554 — MIG and Stick, including positional
- Confident reading and interpreting structural/erection drawings
- Current driver's licence and reliable transport (sites vary across SEQ) — HR (Heavy Rigid) truck licence desirable
- Switched-on approach to site safety and the ability to represent Strategic well in front of builders and clients
2. Hybrid Workshop Boilermaker (Clontarf Shed + Occasional Site)
Based in our Clontarf workshop fabricating structural steel, with the flexibility to jump out on site when install crews need backup.
Ideal for a solid all-round tradesperson who likes variety without living on the road.
What you'll be doing:
- Fabricating structural steel and medium-to-heavy components from workshop drawings
- MIG and Stick welding to AS/NZS 1554 standard
- Fitting, assembly and prep for blast/paint and delivery
- Occasional site days — installs, site fixes and handover support alongside our site crew
What you'll need:
- Cert III in Engineering – Heavy Fabrication (or equivalent) with 5+ years in structural steel
- Ability to pass a weld test to AS/NZS 1554 — MIG and Stick
- Strong drawing interpretation — you can take a shop drawing and run with it
- Forklift and/or overhead crane experience desirable
- HR (Heavy Rigid) truck licence desirable
- White Card and EWP desirable (needed for the site days)
- Willingness to occasionally work on site when the job calls for it
Both roles
- Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability across welding techniques and job types
- Team-focused mindset with the ability to work independently when needed
- Effective time management and communication
- Manual handling capability
- Punctual, reliable, and committed to consistent attendance
- Australian or New Zealand citizen, or current Australian working visa
What we offer
You'll work alongside a tight-knit crew of experienced tradespeople on diverse, high-quality projects, part of a company that genuinely values its team.
- Competitive pay rates — site rates reflect tickets and experience
- Full-time hours with the opportunity to go permanent after probation
- Genuine growth and progression — leading hand and supervisor pathways as we grow
- A strong, supportive team culture
- Regular BBQs and team events
- Solid, steady pipeline of work — workshop and site
If you're skilled, reliable, and ready to get on the tools — whether that's on the shed floor or twenty metres up in a harness — we want to hear from you. Immediate starts available. Apply now and join the Strategic crew.
