Your new company
This is an opportunity to join a privately owned commercial property business with a long-standing presence in the Australian market. The organisation manages a portfolio of premium commercial and mixed-use assets and has built a reputation for long-term tenant relationships, operational excellence and a hands-on, entrepreneurial approach to property management.
Your new role
Reporting to a senior executive with legal and property expertise, you will act as the primary in-house legal adviser to the business, supporting a diverse commercial property portfolio. With a strong focus on commercial and retail leasing, you will provide commercially pragmatic advice across day-to-day property operations while supporting broader legal, governance and risk matters.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial and retail leases, licences, renewals, assignments, surrenders and other leasing documentation.
- Advising on lease interpretation, negotiations and property-related legal issues.
- Preparing and reviewing supplier, contractor, service and general commercial agreements.
- Managing disputes, claims and legal escalations in conjunction with external legal advisers.
- Supporting compliance, governance and risk initiatives across the business.
- Working closely with property, facilities, finance and operational teams to provide practical and timely legal support.
- Improving legal processes, document management systems and internal governance frameworks.
This is a highly visible role suited to someone who enjoys being hands-on, partnering directly with stakeholders and delivering commercial outcomes in a fast-paced property environment.
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful, you will be an admitted lawyer with strong experience in commercial property and leasing matters.
You will likely bring:
- Approximately 6-10 years' post-qualification experience.
- Strong experience across commercial and/or retail leasing.
- Experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating a broad range of legal documentation.
- Well-developed commercial judgement and stakeholder management skills.
- The ability to work autonomously while managing competing priorities.
- Experience supporting disputes, claims and external legal providers.
- A practical, solutions-focused approach and the confidence to provide clear commercial advice.
- An unrestricted practising certificate.
Equally important is your ability to build trusted relationships, communicate effectively across the business and thrive in an environment that values accountability, responsiveness and initiative.
What you'll get in return
In return, you will join a reliable and growing business where legal plays a valued role in supporting commercial outcomes. You'll work closely with experienced property professionals and senior leadership, gaining broad exposure to leasing, operational legal matters, governance and business decision-making. The organisation offers genuine long-term career opportunities, a supportive team environment and the chance to contribute to the ongoing growth and evolution of an established property portfolio. Additional benefits include modern CBD offices, employee wellbeing initiatives, on-site facilities and direct access to senior decision-makers.
