The Role
Arrahman College invites applications from an experienced and passionate teacher with leadership capacity to serve as Head of Student Engagement and Support Services, with a particular focus on developing and implementing a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) across the College.
This is a full-time teaching and leadership position, combining classroom teaching responsibilities with whole-school leadership in student engagement, learning support, wellbeing and behaviour. The successful applicant will play a key role in ensuring that all students are appropriately supported to engage, learn and flourish, from students requiring enrichment and extension through to students requiring targeted or individualised intervention.
Working closely with the Principal, Leadership Team, teachers, learning support and wellbeing staff, parents, and external agencies, the successful applicant will contribute to the development of an integrated, evidence-based framework for academic, behavioural, and social-emotional support.
The role will require the successful applicant to maintain a robust presence in teaching and learning while also providing leadership, coordination and professional support to staff in meeting the diverse needs of students.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake a regular teaching allocation and contribute positively to the College's teaching and learning program.
- Lead the design, implementation and ongoing monitoring of a whole-school MTSS framework that promotes positive behaviour, student engagement and improved learning outcomes.
- Establish and coordinate tiered systems of support, including universal classroom and whole-school strategies, targeted interventions and individualised support plans.
- Develop and oversee processes for the early identification of students requiring additional academic, behavioural, social or emotional support.
- Coordinate timely,
evidence-based interventions and monitor their effectiveness through regular review of student progress.
- Work alongside teachers to strengthen classroom practice, student engagement and inclusive teaching strategies.
- Build staff capability through professional learning, coaching, mentoring and practical support in areas including behaviour management, differentiation, student engagement and intervention strategies.
- Establish collaborative systems for monitoring student progress and use relevant student data to inform decision-making, identify trends and evaluate interventions.
- Lead and coordinate the Student Support Team, including learning support, counselling and wellbeing personnel, to ensure services are proactive, coordinated and responsive to student needs.
- Develop strong partnerships with parents and caregivers to support student learning, wellbeing, behaviour and engagement.
- Liaise with relevant external professionals and agencies where appropriate to coordinate additional support for students.
- Ensure that the Islamic ethos, values and educational philosophy of Arrahman College are reflected in all student support, engagement and wellbeing practices.
- Contribute to whole-school strategic planning and improvement initiatives, particularly in the areas of student wellbeing, engagement, inclusion and learning support.
- Support teachers in developing and implementing appropriate adjustments, intervention strategies and individualised support plans.
- Maintain appropriate records and documentation relating to student support and intervention processes.
- Support the College in meeting relevant NESA requirements, child safety obligations and best-practice expectations relating to student protection and wellbeing.
- Participate actively in the broader life of the College, including staff meetings, professional development, co-curricular activities and other reasonable duties associated with the role.
Essential Criteria
- Demonstrated commitment to the Islamic ethos, values and educational philosophy of Arrahman College.
- NESA-accredited teacher at Proficient Teacher level or above, with relevant qualifications or demonstrated expertise in education, learning support, special education, wellbeing, psychology, counselling or a related field.
- Demonstrated classroom teaching experience and a strong understanding of effective teaching and learning practices.
- Significant experience in leading or coordinating student wellbeing, learning support, behaviour management or student engagement initiatives within a school setting.
- Strong knowledge and practical experience in implementing MTSS, PBIS, Response to Intervention (RTI) or comparable evidence-based frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability to identify student needs, implement appropriate interventions and monitor student progress.
- Proven capacity to analyse and use student data to inform teaching, intervention and support decisions.
- Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust, influence practice and work collaboratively with staff, students and families.
- Strong understanding of inclusive education and effective strategies for supporting diverse learners.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, families and external professionals.
- A strong commitment to child safety and the ability to model ethical, confidential and professional practice.
- Demonstrated ability to balance classroom teaching responsibilities with whole-school leadership and student support responsibilities.
Desirable Criteria
- Postgraduate qualifications or professional learning in educational leadership, special education, student wellbeing, counselling or a related discipline.
- Experience working within an Islamic school or faith-based educational context.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams supporting student learning, wellbeing and engagement.
- Familiarity with evidence-based approaches to behaviour support, social-emotional learning, academic intervention and inclusive education.
- Experience developing whole-school student support frameworks, policies and processes.
- Experience in coaching and mentoring teachers to improve classroom practice and student outcomes.
Teaching and Leadership Allocation
The successful applicant will retain a defined teaching load as an integral component of the position. Teaching responsibilities will be determined by the College according to the applicant's area of expertise, qualifications, timetable requirements and operational needs.
The leadership component of the role will provide dedicated responsibility for coordinating Student Engagement and Support Services and progressing the College's MTSS framework, while maintaining a strong connection to classroom practice and student learning.

Remuneration: Salary will align with the Independent Schools (Teachers) Cooperative Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2025 at the successful applicant's level of responsibility and experience.
