STATUS: Part Time, 7month Contract, with possible extension

AWARD: Hospitality Industry Managerial

About Us

Mu'ooz is a Brisbane-based not-for-profit social enterprise that serves traditional Eritrean and African cuisine and aims to create employment, training and work experience opportunities for disadvantaged women from refugee and migrant backgrounds. It was established in 2007. Mu’ooz has a strong history of providing Skilling Queenslanders for Work (SQW) programs with diverse communities in the South East corridor of Brisbane. The overarching objectives are to improve the lives of these women, with positive flow on impacts for their families while enhancing and respecting the existing knowledge and wisdom the women have in relation to their food and culture. We’re looking for someone who values quality practice, good organisation, team building and positive stakeholder relationships with experience in hospitality, food business management, training & administrative skills. Experience working with people from refugee backgrounds is highly valued.

Overall Purpose

The Mu’ooz Traineeships for a New Start 2026 is a Skilling Queenslanders for Work (SQW) project delivered on-site by the social enterprise, Mu'ooz Restaurant & Catering. The Project Coordinator & Supervisor is highly motivated, experienced and committed to supporting eligible SQW participants in developing industry knowledge, work experience, achieve and complete a Certificate I in Hospitality through this Traineeship.

The SQW Project objectives are:

· Promote and support social and economic independence through employment, training and education opportunities for disadvantaged women from refugee and migrant backgrounds;

· Manage and deliver a structured, hands on program of on-the-job work experience and training,



that is supportive and achievable for women with limited English skills and limited understanding of the Australian employment context, with activities relating to supporting trainees to gain and keep ongoing, sustainable employment in Hospitality industry;

· Support 8 women to complete Certificate I in Hospitality, delivered by Registered Training Organisation ICE;

· Recognise and build on existing skills and capacities, and support women to adapt these to the Australian employment context;

· Promote opportunities for engagement and networking with the African Australian, multicultural and wider Australian communities, to break down isolation and cultural barriers, and support a sense of belonging in Australia which in turn give them confidence as they engage in employment in mainstream Australia;

· Improve the mental and physical wellbeing of the women engaged, with flow on impacts on the wellbeing of the families.

PROJECT CO-ORDINATOR AND WORKPLACE SUPERVISOR DUTIES

- Preparation, delivery, supervision and evaluation of the Mu’ooz Traineeships for a Current Start 2026 SQW project;

- Supervise groups of SQW trainees to achieve positive experiences and complete a Certificate I in Hospitality and on the job food handling training;

- Plan and deliver work schedules and daily activities in accordance with SIT10222 modules and employability skills with the restaurant & catering business;

- Supervise trainees to ensure the professional operation and delivery of quality food and uphold standards to customer satisfaction;

- Prepare monthly written progress reports, financial acquittals and annual report as required by the funding body;

- Process traineeship applications, select for interview/s and manage HR processes of trainees as per contractual requirements;

- Organise & facilitate group-based workshops, on a range of relevant topics related to the hospitality industry and wellbeing for the trainees;





- Undertake general administrative duties and functions of the SQW program including rostering and payroll preparation;

- Support health and wellbeing of participants, including COVID safety plans as required;

- Liaise with stakeholders and partners regarding work activities, resources and processes;

- Contribute to a culture that supports health, safety and wellbeing of all staff, customers and stakeholders;

- Support and Mentor trainees to successfully gain ongoing employment;

- Champion the benefits of workforce diversity and marketing Mu’ooz’s workforce achievements

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential Skills and Knowledge

· Demonstrated experience in providing results-driven employment support to disadvantaged women from refugee and migrant backgrounds, with emphasis on meeting funding criteria KPI’s

· Experience in hospitality and project management.

· Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities, with the ability to work under pressure

· Strong IT skills, with proficiency in a range of computer programs

· Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work supportively and collaboratively within a small team

· Experience in leading teams of trainees, to support completion of training and gain employability skills

· Demonstrated values of integrity, resilience, teamwork and professionalism consistent with Mu’ooz’s vision, including outstanding cross-cultural communication skills and a comprehensive understanding and knowledge of issues in relation to employment and training

· Open driver’s licence

Desirable Skills and/or Experience

- Previous experience in supporting eligible participants to successfully complete Certificate I through a traineeship

- Previous experience in Hospitality role to support SQW projects

- Minimum 12 months experience working in a similar hospitality type role highly desirable
