Construction Safety Advisor
Corowa, NSW | Permanent, full-time
$150,000 + superannuation
HSE Global People is partnering with JBS Pork Australia to recruit an experienced construction safety professional for a permanent position based primarily at Corowa, NSW.
The position will support workplace health and safety across construction sites within the farming division in New South Wales and Victoria. It will suit someone with practical Australian construction safety experience who is comfortable working directly with construction supervisors, contractors and operational leaders.
The Opportunity
JBS Pork Australia has multiple construction projects underway or planned, with further project activity expected over the next five to six years.
At Corowa, planned and current activity includes two major pig-shed developments and a potential additional biogas facility. Multiple construction zones may operate concurrently, each overseen by its own foreman.
JBS currently operates as Principal Contractor for its construction activities in New South Wales. The successful candidate will help the business meet its construction safety obligations, monitor contractor compliance and strengthen safety practices across its projects.
The Role
You will:
- Monitor employee and contractor compliance with WHS legislation, site requirements and JBS standards.
- Monitor contractor performance and address identified non-compliance.
- Ensure contractors entering construction areas comply with JBS prequalification requirements.
- Conduct regular site inspections and assist in resolving non-compliance, particularly in relation to SWMS and permit-to-work requirements.
- Monitor the JBS safety management platform to ensure incidents and hazards are recorded, investigated and closed out.
- Support leaders to complete incident investigations accurately and promptly.
- Lead investigations into incidents categorised as serious.
- Support pre-commissioning and post-commissioning activities to help ensure safe work practices and operational handover requirements are met.
- Work with leaders and employees to facilitate WHS improvements within the construction business.
- Support leaders to understand and fulfil their WHS responsibilities.
- Provide accurate WHS reporting and oversight to management.
- Maintain WHS information, including risk, plant and equipment registers.
- Implement new WHS processes and procedures where required.
- Attend safety pre-start and toolbox meetings as a resource, mentor and, where required, host.
- Analyse identified hazards and recommend controls.
- Develop and maintain construction-specific safety management plans.
- Assist in identifying WHS training needs and developing construction-specific work instructions.
- Work with other WHS advisers to support alignment across the business.
- Travel to other regional JBS sites when required.
About You
You are an experienced construction safety professional with practical knowledge of Australian construction environments. You can work effectively with contractors, supervisors and operational leaders while maintaining clear and appropriate safety standards.
The formal requirements include:
- A minimum Certificate IV in OHS and/or relevant industry experience.
- A sound understanding of WHS legislation, management systems, regulations and codes of practice.
- The ability to facilitate and drive change.
- An understanding of incident investigation processes.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Sound investigative and analytical skills.
- Effective time-management skills.
- Intermediate computer skills.
- A current driver’s licence.
- A willingness to travel.
- ICAM training, which is preferred.
The Environment
The primary work location is Corowa, approximately 50 minutes from Albury-Wodonga.
The Corowa operation includes pork farming, processing, maintenance and agricultural activities. Candidates must therefore be comfortable working within an active livestock and food-production environment, including around pig-farming operations.
Travel to other farming and construction sites in New South Wales and Victoria will be required.
