The Hunter Regional Physician Training Network was established in **** and since its inception has become the largest BPT Training Network in NSW.
We train and support over 60 trainees across six hospitals, spanning two health districts, cantered around Newcastle.

Basic Physician Training roles consist of rotations through medical departments, working under an appropriate level of supervision by consultants.
Rotations have different levels of responsibility and team structures.
BPTs will gain increasing clinical autonomy and accountability as team leaders throughout the course of the three-year training program, building on their skills and attributes with the goal of entering an Advanced Training program.
BPTs undertaking the care of medical patients should ensure that they operate within their own level of expertise within a collaborative clinical care model and to seek consultation with the treating physician when appropriate, in the following activities:Clinically assess patients, incorporating consultation/history taking, examination, and formulation of a differential diagnosis and management plansDiscuss diagnoses and management plans with patients and their families or carersDocument the progress of patients in multiple settingsPrescribe medications tailored to patients' needs and conditionsTransfer care of patientsChoose, organise and interpret investigationsAssess and manage acutely unwell patientsPlan, prepare for, perform, and provide after care for important procedures.
MBBS or equivalent, current general registration with the Medical Board of Australia.This role requires eligibility for or current registration as a Basic Physician Trainee with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) and intent to obtain Fellowship of the RACP.

Qualifications and experience as outlined in the Essential Requirements for the role.Demonstrated recent relevant experience in clinical medicine and ability to work in a complex clinical environment.Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills in dealings with patients, team members and supervisors.Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning, teaching, research, quality improvement and clinical leadership in medicine.Demonstrated teamwork, time management and problem-solving skills in a clinical setting within a multidisciplinary team.Proven ability to apply clinical knowledge and concepts in practical situations in the context of multiple competing priorities.
