This is one of those AI roles that doesn't come around very often.
If you're the kind of engineer who gets excited by building AI products that thousands of businesses will actually use, keep reading.
We're working with one of Australia's best-known SaaS success stories.
They've built a platform used by businesses across Australia and New Zealand, and they're investing heavily in AI to shape the next generation of intelligent products.
This isn't a maintenance role.
It's a chance to help define what AI looks like across an established product used every day by real customers.
What you'll be working on
You'll join a growing AI team building production-grade machine learning systems and LLM-powered features that solve genuine business problems.
Think things like:
Building intelligent document understanding capabilities
Developing AI assistants and conversational experiences
Creating forecasting and prediction models
Taking ideas from whiteboard sketches all the way through to production
Designing scalable AI systems that can support hundreds of thousands of users
If you enjoy building from the ground up rather than endlessly tweaking existing models, you'll feel right at home.
The tech
Python
TensorFlow or PyTorch
Large Language Models (GPT, Claude, Llama or similar)
AWS (SageMaker, Bedrock, S3 and friends)
Docker & Kubernetes
MLOps, CI/CD and deploying models into production
Nobody expects you to tick every box, but you'll be someone who's genuinely passionate about building practical AI systems that make people's lives easier.
What they're looking for They're after someone who enjoys solving hard technical problems, loves experimenting with new ideas and isn't afraid of a bit of ambiguity.
You'll probably have experience:
Building and deploying machine learning models in production
Working with LLMs and contemporary AI tooling
Designing cloud-native applications
Owning projects from concept through to deployment
Collaborating closely with product and engineering teams
Why it's worth a look
Aside from working on genuinely interesting AI problems, you'll be joining a business that has the scale, customers and data to build products that actually make an impact.
You'll also get:
Hybrid working (Melbourne office)
Strong engineering culture with plenty of autonomy
Learning budgets, conferences and ongoing development
Excellent parental leave and wellbeing benefits
A collaborative team where ideas are encouraged, not buried in meetings
An impressive benefits package
If you're looking for a role where you can help shape AI products from the ground up, rather than simply maintaining them, this is well worth a conversation.
