Job Description
Position Overview We are looking for a skilled Telecommunications Field Engineer to install, maintain and support telecommunications infrastructure across a range of environments. This role is responsible for ensuring reliable network performance, resolving technical issues in the field, and supporting the integration of telecommunications systems with IT infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Install, configure and commission telecommunications equipment including routers, switches, cabling and transmission systems
Integrate telecommunications networks with computer systems, hardware, software and operating environments
Diagnose and resolve faults in network infrastructure, ensuring minimal downtime and service disruption
Monitor network performance and conduct routine maintenance to optimise system reliability and efficiency
Maintain accurate records of equipment, configurations, inventory and service activities
Prepare and update technical documentation, including procedures, policies and compliance standards
Provide technical support and guidance to clients, stakeholders and internal teams
Conduct site inspections, testing and troubleshooting of telecommunications systems in field environments
Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations and organisational quality requirements
Coordinate with vendors, service providers and project teams to support installations and upgrades
Support the deployment of new technologies, upgrades and network expansions
Respond to service requests and incidents within agreed service level timeframes
Required Qualifications & Skills




Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Telecommunications Engineering, Electronics, IT or a related field
Proven experience in telecommunications field engineering, network installation or technical support roles
Strong knowledge of networking principles (LAN/WAN, TCP/IP, routing and switching)
Experience with telecommunications equipment, cabling standards and transmission technologies
Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues in field-based environments
Familiarity with operating systems, databases and system integration concepts
Excellent problem-solving, analytical and organisational skills
Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly
Ability to work independently and manage multiple service tasks effectively
Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel to various job sites
Preferred Qualifications
Industry certifications such as Cisco (CCNA/CCNP), CompTIA Network+ or equivalent
Experience with fibre optics, wireless networks or mobile telecommunications systems
Knowledge of network monitoring tools and diagnostic software
Experience working in large-scale infrastructure or enterprise environments
Understanding of Australian telecommunications standards and compliance requirements
