Join St John of God Public Hospital as a Nurse Practitioner – Emergency Department in this fixed-term, full-time opportunity, providing advanced clinical leadership and high-quality, patient-centred care within the Emergency Department.
Working both autonomously and collaboratively within your scope of practice, you will assess and manage patients, including prescribing medications, ordering diagnostic investigations, and directly referring patients to support optimal outcomes.
As a key leader within the interdisciplinary team, you will drive improvements in standards, performance, and service delivery, contribute to achieving organisational targets, and provide expert consultation and liaison services to internal and external stakeholders, all while promoting and upholding the Mission and Values of St John of God Health Care.
The Position
Undertakes advanced level prioritisation and appropriate comprehensive health assessments that include health history, physical examination, cultural, spiritual and social assessment.
Demonstrates advanced holistic nursing expertise in clinical judgment by applying principles of pathophysiology, aetiology, pathogenesis and clinical manifestations appropriate to the Emergency Department patient.
Initiates, implements and evaluates care of clients within the scope of practice, clinical practice guidelines and Australian Nursing & Midwifery Council National Competency Standards for the nurse practitioner.
Practices within a clinical framework that is evidence based, relevant and current.
Demonstrates comprehensive understanding of specific pharmaceuticals and diagnostic tests related to Emergency Department patients.
Demonstrates proficiency in documentation of clinical case management.
Fosters a clinical team culture of interdisciplinary collaboration leading to improved patient outcomes.
Maintains advanced clinical skills relevant to area of practice.
Evaluates the quality of practice in area of specialty.
Identifies unsafe care practices and implements corrective action in collaboration.
Understands and facilitates a team focused culture, which reflects service excellence including seeking and valuing caregivers' contribution and engaging in clear and respectful communication.

Provides expert nursing knowledge to the multidisciplinary team, providing direct clinical care, guidance, support, education and advice on the clinical management of patients.

Ensures staff at all levels has an understanding of key organisational strategies and can see how their work contributes to higher level objectives.
Assumes responsibilities that broaden the advancement of clinical practice eg embracing research-based clinical audit.
Implements and supports the Nursing & Midwifery Standards of Excellence at within their area of speciality.
Promotes and maintains collaborative relationships with accredited Medical Practitioners and other stakeholders.
Accepts accountability for ensuring the service is compliant with relevant Acts, Agreements, Contracts, Licensing requirements, National Standards, Policies and Procedures.
Encourages feedback on own performance.
Actively participates in all relevant clinical and non-clinical committees within and externally to the Hospital.
The successful candidate will be registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse - endorsed as a Nurse Practitioner and hold a postgraduate Diploma or Master of Nurse Practitioner qualification.
You will bring a minimum of five years' recent experience in Emergency nursing, supported by demonstrated advanced clinical knowledge, extended practice capabilities, and the application of evidence-based care to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
You will demonstrate strong clinical leadership, teamwork, mentoring, and problem-solving skills,



along with highly developed communication, liaison, interpersonal, and negotiation abilities.
A clear commitment to ongoing professional development is essential, including an understanding of contemporary healthcare practice, research, and education.
You will also provide evidence of active participation in clinical and/or educational research and quality improvement initiatives, contributing to improved standards of care and service delivery.
