The service also offers families peace of mind by ensuring reliable, compassionate support for their loved ones.Role Description The WorkSkills Mentor is a contract, on-site role based in the Greater Newcastle Area, focused on supporting individuals with disabilities to develop practical work-related and life skills.
Day-to-day responsibilities include planning and facilitating skill-building sessions, coaching participants in workplace behaviors, communication, and time management, and providing hands-on guidance in simulated or real work environments.
The mentor will collaborate with families, support coordinators, and other team members to create individualized plans aligned with each participant's goals.




This role also involves documenting progress, maintaining clear records, and adjusting support strategies to promote ongoing growth and confidence in participants.Qualifications Demonstrated skills in coaching, mentoring, or teaching individuals in work readiness or life skills programs.Experience supporting people with Autism, Down syndrome, or other disabilities in structured learning or community-based settings.Solid interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to build trust, listen actively, and provide clear, respectful guidance.Ability to plan, organize, and deliver structured activities, with sound documentation and record-keeping practices.Relevant qualification in disability support, community services, education, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Understanding of person-centered practice, safeguarding principles, and professional boundaries.Capacity to work on-site in the Greater Newcastle Area, with reliability and a commitment to consistent support.Current working with children and/or vulnerable people checks, and any other compliance requirements as per local regulations.
