Non-Executive Director (Voluntary) – Derwent Estuary Program
Shape the future of one of Tasmania's most important natural assets
The Derwent Estuary Program (DEP) is seeking an experienced and highly capable individual to join its Board as a volunteer Director.
This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the stewardship and long-term sustainability of the Timtumil Minanya/Derwent Estuary through strategic leadership, strong governance, and cross-sector collaboration.
About the Role
As a Board Director, you will play a key role in guiding the strategic direction, oversight, and performance of the program.
Working alongside fellow Board members, you will help ensure DEP continues to deliver impactful, science-based outcomes that improve the estuary's environmental health while supporting community and economic values.
We Are Seeking Expertise In:
We are particularly interested in candidates who bring one or more of the following at a senior or executive level:
Financial Acumen
Strong financial literacy with experience overseeing budgets, financial performance, audit processes, or investment decision-making.
Governance
Demonstrated experience in board governance, including risk management, compliance, accountability, and strategic oversight.
Government Engagement & Networks
Established and influential networks across federal, state, or local government, with a deep understanding of public policy, inter-agency collaboration, and stakeholder engagement.
Legal Expertise
(desirable)




Executive-level legal experience, particularly in environmental, regulatory, administrative, or corporate law, is highly regarded.
About You
You are a strategic thinker who can operate at a governance level and contribute to complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
You bring sound judgment, integrity, and a commitment to public value and environmental outcomes.
Prior board experience is advantageous but not essential.

Commitment
This is a voluntary, unpaid position.
Board meetings are held quarterly, with additional committee participation as required.
Directors are expected to actively contribute to governance, strategy, and stakeholder engagement.
