DCIG is seeking an experienced
Project Engineer
to join our growing project delivery team, supporting the delivery of construction and infrastructure projects within the Defence environment.
This is a hands-on role with an approximately
***** split between site-based and office-based activities
, providing involvement across the full project lifecycle from mobilisation and construction through to commissioning, handover and project close-out.
Previous Defence project experience is essential for this position.
Candidates must have worked within the Defence construction environment and understand the additional processes, documentation, compliance and stakeholder requirements associated with delivering projects on Defence establishments.
A strong working knowledge of the
Defence Handover/Takeover (HOTO) process
is also essential.
The successful candidate will play an important role in ensuring project documentation, inspections, defects, commissioning records, asset information and handover requirements are progressively managed throughout the project rather than left until completion.
Key Responsibilities
Working closely with the Project Manager, Site Manager, subcontractors, consultants and Defence stakeholders, your responsibilities will include:
Supporting the planning, coordination and delivery of Defence construction projects.
Coordinating engineering, design, construction and site activities.
Reviewing drawings, specifications, scopes of work and technical documentation.
Raising and managing RFIs, technical queries and design clarifications.




Coordinating subcontractors, consultants, suppliers and other project stakeholders.
Assisting with procurement, subcontractor packages and material tracking.
Monitoring project programme, progress, costs and key deliverables.
Supporting project quality requirements, including ITPs, inspections, test records, defects and close-out documentation.
Maintaining accurate project registers, records and correspondence.
Assisting with variations, progress claims and contract administration.
Supporting WHS and environmental requirements across project activities.
Participating in site inspections, coordination meetings and project reviews.
Managing and tracking Defence HOTO requirements throughout project delivery.
Coordinating commissioning, defects, warranties, O&M; manuals, as-built documentation and final handover requirements.
Working closely with Defence representatives, project managers, consultants and facility stakeholders to achieve successful project completion.
About You
To be considered for this position, you will need:
Demonstrated experience working on Defence construction or infrastructure projects.




Strong knowledge and practical experience with Defence HOTO processes and requirements.
Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
Previous experience as a Project Engineer or similar project delivery role.
Robust understanding of construction drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
Experience managing RFIs, subcontractors, quality documentation and project registers.
Strong organisational and time-management skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with Defence stakeholders, consultants, subcontractors and site personnel.
A proactive, practical approach to problem solving and project delivery.
Ability and willingness to work approximately
50% site-based and 50% office-based
.
Candidates who have not previously worked on Defence projects will not be suitable for this particular position.
The Opportunity
This is an opportunity to take a key role within DCIG's project delivery team and work across challenging Defence construction projects where you will have genuine involvement from project commencement through to final handover.
We are looking for someone who understands that successful Defence project delivery is not simply about completing the construction works.
It requires strong technical coordination, disciplined documentation, stakeholder management and a clear understanding of what is required to successfully achieve HOTO and project close-out.
