$ 89,565 to $98,614 p.a. (AHP *******)
or $105,787 to $113,029 p.a. (RN *******)
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Aboriginal Health Practitioner (AHP)/ Registered Nurse (RN) provides high quality, comprehensive and culturally appropriate primary health care to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people of the Greater Darwin Area.
Supported by and supporting other health practitioners both within DDHS and the community.
This role is crucial to maintaining cultural integrity and advocates strongly for our clients.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Be a first point of contact for clients attending the DDHS Clinics, including completing an initial diagnosis, treatment, and referrals as necessary (SODAF)With guidance from a senior clinician work as per CARPA guidelines:
Screen patients and treat according to standards and patient's journey.
Identify 'at risk' clients, e.g., older people, youth, and children.
Monitor/ maintain client group recalls.
Perform child and/or adult health checks.
Provide advice about healthy lifestyles, e.g., nutrition and physical activity, alcohol consumption and quit smoking programs through brief interventions.
Refer to complimentary DDHS programs, link closely with local communities and support existing primary care services.
Provide day to day health care service activities within the context of Primary Health Care in a professional, confidential, and culturally secure manner.
Deliver services in accordance with DDHS policy and procedures,



guided by CARPA standard treatment manual and applicable legislation and regulations.
Depending on the clinic and/or program Registered Aboriginal Health Practitioners may assess and treat clients, deliver specific health care programs, or specialise in a health care service.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Essential
Bachelor of Nursing and/or Certificate IV in Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care (Practice).
Current registration as an AHP/ Nurse with AHPRA.
Demonstrated understanding and/or experience in providing Primary Health Care, utilising standard treatment manuals.
Well-developed knowledge of, and contemporary experience in, working with clients with chronic health conditions and relevant management strategies.
Knowledge of the social determinants of health (environment, economic and social inequalities) that have a profound impact on the health and well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Demonstrated ability to use culturally sensitive ways to ensure improved client access to DDHS and/or other health services.
Proven teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to constructively negotiate outcomes with a diverse range of people and service providers.
High level of personal resilience and flexibility with the ability to deal with challenging situations.
Demonstrated computer skills,



including experience using the Microsoft suite of applications and clinical practice software.
Desirable
Remote health experience and/or emergency care experience.
Experience working in an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service or similar environment.

6 weeks annual leave.
5 days paid leave during end-of-year shut down (additional to annual leave).
Salary packaging up to $15,990 per annum, plus additional packaging options.
