About The Role
The Deputy Project Manager (DPM) for Wind Construction Projects acts as the second-in-charge (2IC) to the Project Manager and plays a key role in supporting the planning, execution and delivery of utility-scale wind energy projects from pre-construction through commissioning and handover.
The role supports the Project Manager in managing day-to-day project delivery, coordinating contractors, consultants and stakeholders, and ensuring project objectives are achieved safely, on time and within budget. The Deputy Project Manager is expected to step in for the Project Manager where required and progressively assume ownership of key project workstreams.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Execution
- Support the Project Manager in the delivery of a large and complex Wind project from procurement through construction, commissioning, Practical Completion and handover.
- Assist in managing project scope, budget, timeline and risks to support safe, on-time and on-budget delivery.
- Coordinate EPC contractors and consultants to support adherence to contracts and performance standards.
- Develop detailed project execution plans, risk registers, quality plans, documentation and communication strategies.
- Ensure all project activities comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
- Coordinate with regulatory authorities, local councils, communities and industry stakeholders to ensure compliance with permits and approvals.
- Act as delegate for the Project Manager when required.
Stakeholder & NSP Management
- Support the Project Manager in acting as the client-side representative and facilitating coordination between the Atmos delivery team, contractors and external partners.
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including contractors, local council, landowners, regulatory bodies, grid operators, local communities, First Nations, and First Aid Services.
- Facilitate progress meetings, maintain action registers, provide project updates and support stakeholder management activities.
- Ensure seamless communication between project teams, executive leadership, and external parties.
Contract & Commercial Management
- Support the Project Manager in administering contractual obligations across EPC, NSP, OE, CIS, land lease and other project agreements.
- Assist in managing project financial performance against approved budgets and forecasts.
- Provide information to contract notices, variations, milestone payment claims and extension of time assessments.
- Identify opportunities for schedule optimisation and cost efficiencies while maintaining project quality and delivery objectives.
Project Coordination & Reporting
- Coordinate information to multidisciplinary teams, including finance, engineering, contracts, construction and HSE personnel, as required.
- Prepare project reports, dashboards, governance papers and milestone updates for the Project Manager and senior leadership.
- Track project actions, risks, issues and decisions, ensuring timely escalation where required.
Risk, Quality & Safety Management
- Assist in identifying, evaluating and mitigating project risks associated with safety, environmental, financial and operational factors.
- Support the resolution of technical issues and monitor compliance with grid connection, regulatory and engineering requirements.
Skills & Experience
- Demonstrated experience in project coordination, contract administration and stakeholder management on large and complex construction projects.
- Previous experience as a Project Engineer, Contracts Administrator, Project Coordinator, Construction Manager or Deputy Project Manager within the renewable energy, infrastructure or construction sectors.
- Strong commercial acumen, negotiation skills, and ability to manage contractual risk.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Qualifications/proficiency in project management methodologies and tools (e.g. PMP/PmBoK, Primavera).
- Proven experience supporting the delivery of utility-scale wind, solar, BESS or major infrastructure projects through construction and commissioning phases.
- Ability to step into the Project Manager role and assume delegated responsibilities when required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Renewable Energy, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Work Environment
- Combination of office-based work and regular site visits (WA).
- Office based flexible working (3 days in office, Melbourne)
- Ability to travel to project locations and work in outdoor construction environments.
