The Department of the House of Representatives is seeking applications from those interested in directly supporting the work of the House of Representatives and members of Parliament at Parliament House in Canberra.

About the department

The Department of the House of Representatives provides services to support the effective conduct of the House of Representatives, its committees and certain joint committees, and provides a range of services and facilities for Members of Parliament in Parliament House. The department also promotes the work of the House in the community and supports the conduct of the Parliament’s international and regional relations.

About the role

The Researcher, Procedure compiles routine statistics and prepares procedural records related to the work of the House, and undertakes other procedural research as required. They also provide secretariat support for the Procedure Committee and administrative support for the work of the office.

Position Duties

The Researcher, Procedure will:

1. Carry out procedural research and writing under the direction of the Directors and Assistant Directors, including:

- drafting procedural records, supporting procedural publications and preparing responses to requests for information;
- supporting compilation of routine statistics; and
- conducting research for departmental collections, including the pictorial collection.

2.



Under direction of the Secretary and Inquiry Secretary to the Standing Committee on Procedure:

- provide research, analytical and writing support, including preparation of meeting and briefing papers, drafting minutes and contributing to committee reports
- as part of a team, organise and support meetings, public hearings and inspections, including arranging logistics and liaising with stakeholder groups;
- contribute to the management and security of committee records and provide administrative and other support to a committee secretariat as required.

3. Contribute to the work of the office, including to the Procedural Development Section, including:

- support for online publishing;
- managing inventory control and distribution of print publications; and
- support for record keeping and maintenance of departmental collections.

Position Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible, applicants must:

- Be an Australian citizen;
- Undertake a National Police check
