Electrician – Fire & Electrical Compliance Technician

Part-Time to Full-Time
HOF Fire & Security is one of Northern NSW's leading providers of fire protection, electrical compliance and electronic security services. Due to continued growth, we are seeking a Licensed Electrician to join our team servicing residential, commercial and industrial clients throughout Northern NSW.
This position is available on a part-time to full-time basis, with flexibility around working days and hours for the right applicant.
The role is focused on RCD testing and repairs, smoke alarm testing and repairs, exit and emergency lighting testing and repairs, and routine testing of portable fire equipment and fire hose reels.
This is an ideal opportunity for an electrician looking for a change from traditional electrical contracting, someone wanting more structured and predictable work, or an experienced electrician seeking a flexible part-time position with the opportunity to increase to full-time hours.
Previous fire industry experience is not essential. Training will be provided to the right applicant.
About the Role
You will be responsible for electrical compliance testing, repairs and routine fire protection inspections across a diverse portfolio of residential, commercial, industrial and government properties.
Your responsibilities will include:
- RCD testing and compliance inspections
- Fault finding and repair of failed or defective RCDs
- Replacement and installation of RCDs where required
- Smoke alarm inspection and testing
- Fault finding, repair and replacement of smoke alarms
- Installation and upgrade of hard-wired and interconnected smoke alarms
- Inspection and testing of illuminated exit signs
- Inspection and testing of emergency lighting
- Fault finding and repair of defective exit and emergency lighting
- Replacement and installation of exit signs and emergency light fittings
- Inspection and testing of portable fire extinguishers
- Inspection and testing of fire blankets
- Inspection and testing of fire hose reels
- Identification and reporting of defects
- Completion of electronic service reports and compliance documentation
- Completion of minor rectification works while onsite where practical
- Providing professional service and advice to clients
- Ensuring all works are completed safely and in accordance with relevant Australian Standards and company procedures
The position combines routine scheduled compliance work with electrical fault finding and repairs, allowing you to complete many identified defects at the time of inspection rather than simply reporting them for future attendance.
Training in the inspection and testing of portable fire equipment and fire hose reels can be provided where required.
About You
We are looking for a qualified electrician who is organised, reliable and comfortable working independently across multiple client sites.
You will have good electrical fault-finding skills, solid attention to detail and take pride in completing compliant, professional work.
Experience within the fire protection industry is advantageous but not required. We are prepared to provide industry-specific training to an experienced electrician interested in developing additional skills within fire protection and compliance.

Essential
- Current NSW Electrical Licence
- Electrical fault-finding and repair experience
- Experience with RCD testing, replacement and fault finding
- Experience with smoke alarms
- Ability to undertake electrical repairs and minor installation works
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and manage a scheduled workload
- Professional communication and customer service skills
- Current Driver Licence
- White Card
- Valid Australian working rights
Desirable
The following experience or qualifications would be advantageous but are not essential:
- Fire protection industry experience
- Cert II or Cert III in Fire Protection Inspection & Testing
- Experience inspecting and testing fire extinguishers and fire blankets
- Experience inspecting and testing fire hose reels
- Experience with exit and emergency lighting
- Knowledge of AS 1851-2012
- Knowledge of applicable exit and emergency lighting requirements
- Experience completing compliance inspections across commercial and residential properties
Fire industry training can be provided to suitable applicants.
