About the Role

The Biomedical Engineer Class 4 is a senior leadership role within Clinical Engineering, providing technical and operational leadership for the safe, effective and compliant management of healthcare technology across Melbourne Health.

You will provide expert oversight across the lifecycle of medical equipment, lead and support Biomedical Engineers, and work closely with clinical and operational stakeholders to manage technology risks, complex issues, equipment planning and service improvement.

This role contributes to strategic planning and the delivery of high-quality Clinical Engineering services, with a strong focus on patient safety, compliance, service excellence and workforce capability.

Key Accountabilities

- Provide operational leadership and day-to-day supervision of Biomedical Engineers and Clinical Engineering staff, supporting workload allocation, staff development and service delivery across Melbourne Health.
- Lead the maintenance, testing and repair of medical equipment and systems, ensuring compliance with Australian Standards, TGA requirements, accreditation standards and organisational policies.
- Deliver expert technical advice on the evaluation, procurement, operation, replacement and lifecycle management of medical devices and healthcare technology systems.
- Support the planning and delivery of equipment replacement programs, technology projects and asset management initiatives to ensure safe, sustainable and cost-effective healthcare delivery.
- Monitor service performance, compliance and key performance indicators (KPIs), driving continuous improvement initiatives that enhance patient safety,



service quality and operational efficiency.

About You

- Degree in Biomedical, Electrical, Electronics Engineering or related discipline, with eligibility for Engineers Australia or relevant professional membership.
- Demonstrated senior leadership experience in Biomedical or Clinical Engineering within a healthcare environment.
- Extensive experience managing the lifecycle of medical equipment and healthcare technology, from procurement and commissioning through to maintenance and replacement.
- Strong knowledge of medical devices, Australian Standards, TGA requirements and healthcare technology practices within a tertiary setting.
- Proven ability to lead complex projects, manage competing priorities and deliver outcomes in a large, complex organisation.
- Highly developed analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to provide expert technical advice and resolve complex issues.
