Joinery Leading Hand – Timber Doors & Windows
Architectural Hardwood Joinery | Wollongong, NSW | Full-Time
Architectural Hardwood Joinery is looking for an experienced Joinery Leading Hand to join our team.
This is a hands-on leadership role suited to a trade-qualified joiner, cabinet maker or carpenter who has strong experience working with solid timber and wants to take the next step into leading a workshop team.
You’ll work alongside our production team, helping coordinate day-to-day workshop activities, supporting apprentices and tradesmen, and ensuring our custom timber windows, doors and architectural joinery are manufactured to a high standard.
About the role
As Joinery Leading Hand, you will play an important role in keeping the workshop organised, productive and running to schedule.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading and supporting a team of tradesmen, apprentices and workshop staff
- Coordinating daily workshop activities and allocating jobs to team members
- Reading and interpreting architectural drawings, window and door schedules and shop drawings
- Setting out and manufacturing custom timber windows, doors and architectural joinery
- Working with solid recycled Australian hardwoods
- Operating a range of woodworking machinery, including saws, multi-head machines, spindle moulders, CNC routers and other workshop equipment
- Ensuring work is completed accurately
- Checking joinery throughout the manufacturing process and completing quality control before products leave the workshop
- Identifying and resolving manufacturing issues before they become problems
- Assisting with job planning, material requirements and workshop scheduling
- Training and mentoring apprentices and less experienced team members
- Maintaining a clean, organised and safe workshop
- Ensuring machinery, tools and equipment are operated safely and maintained appropriately
- Working closely with management, draftsmen and other members of the production team to keep projects moving
About you
We are looking for someone who takes pride in their trade and has the experience and confidence to lead a team.
Ideally, you will have:
- A trade qualification in joinery, cabinet making, carpentry or a related trade
- At least 5 years' experience in a professional joinery or woodworking environment
- Strong experience working with solid timber and high-end architectural joinery
- The ability to confidently read and understand detailed architectural and workshop drawings
- Strong knowledge of traditional joinery methods and modern manufacturing techniques
- Experience operating and setting up woodworking machinery
- Excellent attention to detail and a strong understanding of quality control
- The ability to identify problems and work out practical solutions
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Previous experience supervising or leading other tradesmen or apprentices
- A strong focus on safety and efficient workshop practices
- A current driver's license
- A current forklift license
Experience with CNC machinery, CAD/CAM, CNC programming or digital manufacturing would be highly regarded.
