About the business
Renew Alice Springs is an activation project led by national social enterprise Renew Australia, funded by Alice Springs Town Council.
The project applies Renew Australia's broader model: working with communities and property owners to offer vacant shops, offices, and buildings rent-free to artists, creative projects, start-ups, and community initiatives. On Todd Mall, this activation project will drive visitation and support the wider business community.
About the role
Reporting to the Renew Australia General Manager, the Renew Alice Springs Project Manager will lead the local rollout and delivery of the Renew Alice Springs program.
This role would suit a motivated self-starter who loves Alice Springs, understands the value of local creativity, and is excited by the opportunity to help bring new energy, activity and connection into the town centre. We are looking for someone who can build strong local relationships, take initiative, and confidently drive the project forward on the ground.
Position type and Employment period
The Renew Alice Springs Project Manager will be offered a fixed-term part time contract for an initial period of 11 months, with the potential to extend with a revised job description. Working hours will be variable; however, we are looking for an experienced project manager with the capacity and flexibility to work from 15 to 22.5 hours per week.
Applicants with a background in arts or placemaking administration, arts production, small business, sales, real estate, or property management with a passion for the Alice Springs area will be highly regarded.
This job will be a combination of working from home, working from and attending meetings at Alice Springs Town Council offices and visiting sites in Todd Mall.
This role will include working closely with and reporting to our funding partners at Alice Springs Town Council.
Key Selection Criteria
Essential Experience, Skills and Attributes
- Professional experience in, or a strong interest in, one or more of the following areas: the creative industries, arts administration, economic or community development,not-for-profit or social enterprise, urban or strategic planning, retail, commercial real estate or property management, placemaking or town centre management.
- Understanding of, and passion for, creative enterprise and the revitalisation of communities and local economies – ideally with a strong connection to or knowledge of Todd Mall and the Alice Springs area.
- High-level interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills – including experience in stakeholder engagement, negotiation, and professional documentation.
- High-level administrative and organisational skills – including highly developed attention to detail, ability to simplify, prioritise, and anticipate tasks
- Developed understanding of the requirements for effective project management and creative collaboration – including the ability to work independently, multi-task, delegate,
and/or complete a micro to macroscope of actions, engage with different disciplines, adopt new technologies, streamline processes, respond to changing priorities and pressures, and deliver to budgets and deadlines.
- Dynamic, decisive, self-motivated, and open-minded – a commitment to taking initiative, collaborative process, learning, experimentation, and continuous improvement in the workplace.
Desirable Experience and Knowledge
- Appreciation of the unique Renew Australia model of accessing properties for creative activation.
- Understanding of the needs and dynamics of small-scale creative businesses or independent initiatives.
- Basic understanding of local government, urban planning, and compliance issues and processes in relation to space/ place activation.
- Experience in curation or programming of multi-disciplinary creative projects – including assessment of proposal applications.
- Experience in community engagement, public speaking, and/or managing expectations of diverse stakeholders.
- Experience working independently or as a contractor
- Experience with workflow and CRM platforms
- Experience in, or aptitude for, marketing and content creation (e.g. video, social media, photography) to help promote the project, spaces and the creatives who use them.
