About the Prospect
As the Engineering Welding Manager for Austal Defence Australia (ADA), you’ll be responsible for providing welding capability development for future shipbuilding programs and ensuring best practice on current projects. As a part of the Production Engineering team the Engineering Welding Manager will work closely with the broader Engineering team, the Quality team, the Production teams and other stakeholders to ensure all welding operations are carried out efficiently.

What’s Involved
- Develop welding capability and ensure efficiency of welding operations for all tasking statements undertaken by ADA
- Ensure all welding activities meet industry standards, codes and project/customer requirements, including the completion of all required NDT
- Provide subject matter expertise to the quality team who will monitor efficient welding operations, inspection and testing
- Propose and monitor systems for managing welder qualifications
- Identify,
assess and mitigate risks in welding operations
- Continuously review and improve project processes to improve business operations
- Train project and quality teams on weld control procedures and best practice
You’ll Need
- Bachelor of Engineering in Welding Engineering or a related engineering discipline
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in welding operations
- Detailed knowledge of welding techniques, materials and equipment including methods for weld inspection and testing in support of efficient operations
- In-depth understanding of industry standards and codes
- Proficient in welding software and tools
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Internal auditor training (Nationally Accredited)
- International Welding Engineer (IWE) or International Welding Supervisor (IWS) qualification (desirable)
- Experience with developing capability In Shipbuilding Accuracy Control methods (desirable)
- Eligibility for a Defence Security Clearance
