What you'll be doing

The Allied Health Assistant (Orthotic) provides technical assistance to orthotists and manufactures orthotic and related devices for patients referred to the Orthotics Department. The role involves working with the orthotics team to support the department’s mission, philosophy, and objectives.

Normal hours of operation are from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday. Occasionally work may be required outside of these times in special circumstances or during emergencies, and may involve assisting with home visits, other facilities, or outreach services.

Responsibility Areas

Assist orthotists with technical tasks, including use of hand tools, workshop machinery, leather work, welding, plastic moulding, or other manufacturing skills. Contribute to the design, production, and maintenance of orthotic devices, ensuring quality and efficiency. Provide support during home visits and outreach services as needed.

Qualifications

- Certificate III level technical qualification (or equivalent).
- Willingness to undergo further on-the-job training.
- Interest in making things with a focus on quality and efficiency.
- Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team in a busy environment.
- Technical skills or manufacturing experience (hand tools, workshop machinery, leather work, welding, plastic moulding, or similar) – an advantage.
- Previous work experience or training as an orthotic/prosthetic technical assistant – an advantage.
