Job Description
Placed.au is looking for a full-time Dental Technician for our client in Melbourne, Victoria. This role is responsible for designing, fabricating, repairing, and customising a wide range of dental prostheses and appliances to support patient treatment, oral function, and aesthetics. The successful candidate will utilise traditional laboratory techniques alongside modern CAD/CAM technology to produce high-quality dental restorations while maintaining strict quality assurance and infection control standards.
Job Description
- Design, fabricate, customise, and repair a variety of dental prostheses including crowns, bridges, veneers, dentures, mouth guards, retainers, aligners, inlays, onlays, and implant-supported restorations.
- Read and interpret laboratory prescriptions and technical instructions provided by dentists to ensure appliances are manufactured accurately and meet clinical requirements.
- Examine dental impressions, digital scans, and study models to determine the appropriate design, materials, and fabrication techniques for each case.
- Operate CAD/CAM systems to digitally scan, design, mill, and 3D print dental restorations and appliances with a high degree of accuracy.
- Mix, prepare, and process dental materials including plaster, porcelain, acrylics, ceramics, resins, and other specialised laboratory materials.
- Match tooth shades and characteristics using photographs, shade guides, and other reference materials to achieve natural-looking restorations.
- Inspect completed dental appliances to ensure quality, accuracy, fit, function, and aesthetic standards are achieved prior to dispatch.
- Perform alterations, adjustments, repairs, polishing, and finishing of dental appliances to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records, production documentation, and quality assurance processes for all cases.
- Monitor and maintain laboratory equipment while ensuring a clean, safe, and compliant working environment in accordance with infection control and workplace health and safety requirements.
- Analyse technical issues, identify defects, and implement practical solutions to improve product quality, workflow efficiency, and laboratory processes.
- Collaborate effectively with dentists, clinicians, and laboratory team members to ensure timely completion of cases and exceptional patient outcomes.
Qualifications / Attributes
- Must hold a Diploma or higher qualification in Dental Technology, or at least three (3) years of relevant work experience may substitute for the formal qualification.
- Must possess at least three (3) years of relevant work experience as a Dental Technician.
- Demonstrated experience in the fabrication, repair, and customisation of crowns, bridges, veneers, dentures, implant restorations, mouth guards, retainers, aligners, and full-mouth rehabilitation cases.
- Robust knowledge and practical experience in implant componentry and advanced restorative dental laboratory procedures.
- Proficient in the use of CAD/CAM technology, including digital scanning, computer-aided design, milling, and 3D printing of dental restorations.
- Thorough understanding of dental materials, colour matching techniques, occlusion, and aesthetic restorative principles.
- Excellent knowledge of infection prevention, sterilisation procedures, laboratory quality assurance, and workplace health and safety requirements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to consistently produce accurate, high-quality dental appliances.
- Exceptional attention to detail, manual dexterity, and organisational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with dentists, clinicians, and laboratory staff.
Salary Range $75,000 – $85,000 per annum excluding superannuation.
