The Property Council of Australia is the peak body representing Australia’s largest industry -one that employs more than 1.4 million people and shapes how our cities grow, invest and thrive. We are seeking a National Policy Manager, Capital Markets to play a pivotal role in shaping national policy settings that influence investment, finance, governance and regulation across the Australian property sector.
This is a senior, high‑impact role for an experienced policy professional who thrives at the intersection of government, industry and capital markets.
The opportunity
Reporting to the Executive Director, Capital Markets, you will lead the development and advocacy of public policy that supports strong and transparent real estate capital markets. Your work will directly influence policy settings relating to global investment, superannuation, accounting, finance, corporate governance and regulation.
You will work closely with senior leaders across our membership, policymakers, regulators and industry partners; positioning the Property Council as a trusted, credible and influential voice at the highest levels of government and industry.
What you’ll be responsible for
Policy leadership & development
- Monitor and analyse political, legislative and regulatory developments impacting property investment and capital markets
- Develop and manage national policy positions across finance, accounting, corporate governance and regulation
- Lead the preparation of high‑quality submissions and responses to government policy and legislation
- Commission and manage policy research to support evidence‑based advocacy
Advocacy & influence
- Advocate Property Council positions directly with national policymakers and regulators
- Support state and territory divisions on finance, governance and regulatory advocacy
- Represent the industry on government boards, committees and working groups
- Collaborate with other industry bodies to drive aligned, effective advocacy outcomes
- Build trusted relationships with senior executives, investors and advisers across the membership
- Work closely with Division Councils and Presidents to support their advocacy priorities
- Support strategies that drive strong member engagement, satisfaction and retention
- Represent the Property Council with credibility and authority across government and industry forums
Thought leadership, communications & events
- Deliver clear, compelling communications to members including briefings, alerts, web content and media material
- Support the development of media framing and responses on major national issues
- Contribute to the delivery of flagship events such as the Canberra Leaders’ Summit
- Guide the development of exclusive member briefings, C‑suite events and conferences
What you’ll bring
You are a confident, commercially minded policy leader who can operate comfortably in complex,
fast‑moving environments.
- At least 10 years’ experience across industry, government or political environments
- Strong expertise in policy development and advocacy processes
- A deep understanding of finance, corporate governance and regulatory systems in Australia , ideally with exposure to property or investment markets
- Proven ability to engage senior stakeholders and influence decision‑makers
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distil complex issues clearly and persuasively
- A proactive, self‑directed approach and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
