The opportunity

Fusion5 is making a serious investment in AI: not as a buzzword, but as a way to give our people back the time and headspace they deserve. We're building a small, senior team whose job is to work alongside the business and create intelligent solutions that take the repetitive, low-value work off people's plates, so they can focus on the work that actually uses their expertise.

This is one of two founding roles. You'll report directly to the Director of AI, with strong executive sponsorship and a clear mandate: help Fusion5's people become the best versions of themselves at work.

What you'll do

- You'll take proven prototypes and make them enterprise-ready: adding the architecture, security, scalability, and operational rigour that turns a outstanding idea into a trusted, production-grade solution. You'll work across the modern AI stack (LLMs, agent frameworks, cloud platforms, APIs, and orchestration tools) to build things that are reliable at scale.
- You'll work in close partnership with the AI Automation Consultant. They'll bring you validated prototypes born from real conversations with the business: solutions that have already proven their value. Your job is to take that signal and build something the organisation can depend on. You'll lean into each other constantly: they'll sharpen your understanding of the problem, you'll sharpen their understanding of what it takes to go to production. Together, you'll move faster than either of you could alone.
- You'll be a circuit breaker for how technology gets delivered. Traditional SDLCs, lengthy requirements gathering, waterfall handoff s: you'll constantly challenge whether there's a faster, smarter path. Not because those approaches didn't serve a purpose, but because the tools have changed and the delivery model needs to change with them. You'll help define what modern delivery looks like when AI is part of the team.

- You'll develop and maintain our agentic workforce: building AI agents that act as reliable digital team members, with the right guardrails, monitoring, and continuous improvement to earn the business's trust.
- You'll care deeply about doing it right: security, data lineage, and governance aren't things you bolt on at the end. They're part of how you think from the start.
- You'll make it accessible: explaining what you've built in ways that help people feel confident and excited, not overwhelmed.

What we're looking for

- You think in systems, not syntax. You understand how cloud platforms, APIs, data stores, and AI models fi t together: the language you write it in matters far less than whether you understand the architecture.
- You understand generative AI: not just how to prompt, but how LLMs work, where they're strong, where they hallucinate, and how to build reliable systems around them.
- You're comfortable in the cloud. You know how to deploy, scale, and secure solutions in8 modern cloud environments, and you understand why that matters more than writing clever code locally.
- You understand data: vector databases, embeddings, retrieval patterns, and how to connect AI to the right information at the right time. You think about data lineage and provenance, not just data access.
- Security is a first principle for you. You understand identity, access control, data classification,

and the responsibility that comes with building AI systems that touch business-critical information.
- You build things end-to-end. You've taken solutions from idea to production and put them in front of real users, not just prototyped.
- You challenge delivery orthodoxy. You've seen traditional SDLCs slow things down and you're energised by the idea of finding a better way: not by throwing out rigour, but by applying it where it actually matters.
- You communicate well. You can walk a non-technical colleague through what you've built and leave them feeling empowered, not confused.
- You see AI as a way to support people, not sideline them.

Nice to have

- Hands-on experience with agentic frameworks: MCP, Claude, OpenAI Agents SDK,LangChain/LangGraph, or similar.
- Familiarity with RAG architectures, knowledge graphs, or enterprise search patterns.
- Experience with ERP, CRM, or professional services platforms: the kind of systems Fusion5 lives in.
- Background in consulting or services: you're comfortable with variety and context-switching.
- Experience coaching or mentoring others, whether that's junior developers, business users, or anyone learning something new.

Why this role matters

Fusion5 is one of the largest locally-owned technology services companies in Australia and New Zealand. We've got nearly a thousand people doing important, skilled work, and we want to make sure they're spending their time on the parts of that work that matter most.

This role exists to help make that happen. You'll have real backing, real problems to solve, and you'll see the impact of your work in the day-to-day lives of your colleagues. That's not a small thing.

How to apply

Send your CV and a short note about a time you used technology to make someone's work life easier.

If you've got a GitHub, a portfolio, or a side project that shows how you think, we'd love to see it.
