Associate

Director - Full time, Australia We are looking for an Associate Director to be part of the Pillar Two team and help us to drive and support client projects. As an Associate Director, you will work with national and global corporations and other organisations to support and develop their approach to respecting human rights in line with the UNGPs and other key international standards, as well as emerging national frameworks and regulations including contemporary slavery reporting,



forced labour bans and mandatory human rights due diligence legislation where relevant. You will not be asked to provide any legal advice.

In this role, you will take ownership of defined project deliverables and build trusted relationships with client stakeholders, while working closely with senior team members who will guide overall project strategy and direction. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to business development, thought leadership, and internal capability building.

Location: This is a hybrid role which can be based in Canberra, Melbourne, Perth or Sydney.

Your responsibilities will include: Designing, supporting, and / or undertaking projects to advance companies’ implementation of the UNGPs. This may include developing human rights policy and process documents, conducting salient human rights issues assessments, human rights impact assessments and analyses, human rights risk and gap analyses, designing human rights due diligence frameworks and developing training and guidance materials. It may also include developing recommendations, roadmaps and action plans for continuous improvement in relation to companies’ human rights approaches.

Conducting and supervising research and analysis, including on industry best practice, regulatory developments and stakeholder expectations. Drafting project reports and other deliverables tailored to client needs and presenting those deliverables. Drafting and advising on human rights reports including modern slavery statements.

Liaising with corporate clients and external stakeholders including representatives from investors, civil society organizations, academia and government. Coordinating individual projects to ensure they are delivered in a timely manner, on budget, and to a high quality.



Supervising junior team members as needed on specific projects including senior advisors, advisors and researchers.

Representing Pillar

Two at external events. Writing client updates and thought leadership pieces. Enhancing the Pillar Two working culture by contributing and participating in opportunities with your colleagues to foster and support our collaborative work approach. The individual in this role may be expected to travel internationally and domestically to conduct engagements in a wide range of settings.

Relevant experience and skills: At least 8 years of experience working in business and human rights, with a strong preference for experience working within a company or advising businesses in a professional services firm.

A law degree or other degree involving study of international human rights law, with a strong preference for a graduate degree directly relevant to business and human rights.

Very strong expertise in the UNGPs, Australian Modern Slavery Act and broader business and human rights space including international frameworks and relevant laws and other jurisdictions. Strong ability to independently coordinate multiple projects at the same time including consistently within budget.

Experience in all key areas of work (at a minimum, salient human rights issue assessments, human rights impact analyses / assessment, human rights due diligence frameworks, modern slavery statement drafting and advice, human rights policy development, business relationship engagement i.e. advising on a supplier deep dive or supplier self assessment tool, benchmarking, training, gap analysis and strategic advice).

Strong ability to engage in important client interactions.

Experience in business development.

Experience in delegation to more junior colleagues. Excellent drafting skills and attention to detail.
