Role Description We are looking for a practical and technically capable Automation & Field Systems Specialist to support our engineering team across field service, commissioning, troubleshooting and system support activities.

This role is suited to someone who is comfortable working hands-on with industrial automation systems, can follow structured procedures accurately, and can work independently within clearly defined technical boundaries.

You will attend customer sites, perform inspections and diagnostic activities, collect and document technical information, support commissioning and maintenance activities, and escalate more complex engineering issues to the engineering team when required.

The role will also provide exposure to RCF’s Ignition-based systems and MMS platform, including system testing, deployment support, customer demonstrations and ongoing application support.

A key part of the role is being able to work confidently in the field while recognising when an issue requires escalation.



You will not be expected to make unsupported engineering decisions, but you will be expected to gather reliable information, communicate clearly with customers and engineers, and help move issues toward resolution. Typical responsibilities include:

Field troubleshooting of PLC, HMI, SCADA and instrumentation systems.

Inspection and testing of 24 Vdc control circuits, sensors, actuators, relays and field devices.

Collection of diagnostic information, logs, photographs and site data for engineering review.

Supporting commissioning, proof testing and acceptance testing activities.

Following RCF and client procedures, test plans and quality documentation.

Preparing equipment, tools, test instruments and documentation for site activities.

Supporting Ignition-based applications and MMS deployments.

Assisting with customer demonstrations, system walkthroughs and technical support. Qualifications

Diploma, Advanced Diploma, trade qualification, or engineering studies in Electrical, Automation, Instrumentation, Mechatronics or a related field.

Ideally 2–5 years of practical experience in industrial automation, instrumentation, electrical controls or field service.

Working knowledge of PLC, HMI and SCADA systems.

Practical troubleshooting skills for industrial control systems and field instrumentation.

Ability to read electrical drawings, IO schedules and technical documentation.

Comfortable working on customer sites and communicating technical observations.

Solid attention to detail and ability to follow procedures accurately.

Experience with Ignition SCADA, industrial networking or functional safety systems would be advantageous.
