Bring your experience with children into a rewarding teaching career!
Dive In Swimming Academy is looking for a patient, dependable and experienced person to join our Aquababies and Early Years - Future Learn To Swim Teacher Pathway.
This role is ideal for someone with at least five years’ experience working with babies, young children or families who would like to develop into a qualified Learn to Swim Teacher.
Previous swim-school experience is not required. We are looking for someone who can build trust with children, communicate confidently with parents and create warm, positive experiences in the water.
You will begin by assisting qualified teachers while completing Dive In’s practical mentoring pathway. You will also be expected to complete the external Royal Life Saving Swim Teacher course and progress towards teaching your own classes within an appropriate timeframe.
This is a teacher development position, not an ongoing assistant-only role.
About the Role
Working in the water alongside experienced teachers, you will support babies, toddlers and young children as they build water confidence, develop foundational swimming skills and become more independent in the water.
Your role will include actively engaging with children, supporting lesson activities, helping children feel safe and confident, communicating positively with parents and caregivers, and learning from experienced teachers through hands-on mentoring.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting Aquababies and early-level lessons
- Helping children feel comfortable, confident and engaged, building their confidence in the water
- Creating positive bonding experiences for children and their parents or caregivers
- Responding calmly and reassuringly when a child feels nervous or needs extra encouragement
- Communicating with parents about their child’s progress
- Educating families about water safety
- Assisting with lesson activities, equipment and class flow
- Receiving coaching and applying feedback to build your teaching skills
- Learning and following Dive In’s teaching approach
What We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate will have:
- At least five years’ experience working with babies, young children or families
- A patient, calm and reassuring manner
- A natural ability to connect with children
- Confidence communicating with parents and caregivers
- The ability to guide and reassure families throughout their child’s swimming journey
- Reliability and commitment to agreed rostered shifts
- A willingness to learn, receive feedback and develop recent skills
- A confident and safe swimming ability
- Current Working With Children Check
- Current CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Relevant experience may have been gained through childcare, education, health, family services, sport, customer service or volunteering
- Previous swimming teacher experience is not required.
Availability
Available shifts may include:
- Weekday mornings: approximately 9:00am–12:00pm
- Weekday afternoons: approximately 3:30pm–6:30pm
- Saturdays: approximately 7:30am–12:00pm
- Sunday's: approximately 8:00am–11:00am
